LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Welcome back to the start of the 2025 schooling year. I hope you have all had a restful and safe break. I hope those that had students starting in high school, like I did, had a successful transition.
It has been great to see all the students returning for the start of the year, looking keen and refreshed. I must congratulate our community on the high standards our students have started with. All students have returned in uniform and have been working hard in classes.
Staff spent the pupil free days learning about our new readers, Decodable Readers Australia (DRA). It was a testament that all of our teacher aides elected to come back early to be part of the training.
This year we welcome back Miss Regina Fairbrother who is teaching Year 1 and welcome Ms Lauren Watson who joins the support team for term 1.
As you would be aware, last year we reviewed several of the school policies, including uniform, homework and behaviour. These updated policies come into effect this year after being endorsed by our P&C last year.
Included in this newsletter are the homework and uniform policies. The behaviour policy will be finalised by the end of term 1. Thank you to all of our parents who were able to participate in the reviews during last year.
Congratulations to our P&C and OSHC staff who were run off their feet over the break with Vacation Care being at capacity for most of the break.
This week students started swimming at Gympie South pool. Another special thank you to our P&C who are funding the buses for swimming this year. This on top of the Learn to Swim grant we receive has significantly reduced the cost.
P&C will also be funding buses for excursions and camp. What a great initiative to support every student in the school.
Fitness and Fun has begun this week. We are very lucky to have Mr Adam Cross working at the school this term. From 8:30am to 8:50am Mr Cross is running activities for students in years 4-6. Tuesday is year 4, Wednesday is year 5 and Friday is year 6 students.

I look forward to a great term.

Kind Regards,
James Watt - Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

LEADERSHIP PARADE
On Friday 14 Feb, we will be having our Leadership Parade where the School Captains, House Captains and Leadership Team receive their badge and take on leadership responsibilities in the school and are role models for younger students. Parents/Carers are invited to pin the badge on their child and share in this proud moment for their child. Following parade, we invite parents/carers to attend morning tea with their child.
The 2025 School Captains are Pypa and Silas, the House Captains are: McPaul – Bonnie and Hayden, Doran – Edith and Verissa, Radford – Amity and Isla. We are looking forward to seeing these students ‘lead the way’ at Jones Hill.
NAPLAN
Year 3 & 5 students will be participating in The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.
As students’ progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
Further information
Visit ACARA’s For parents and carers webpage for further information, including how student results are reported.
