2025 PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE
We are delighted to invite all JHSS students to join in the 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).
The PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books read during the reading period, from 6 May to 22 August.
To complete the challenge:
- Prep to Year 6 must read or experience at least 20 books
Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim for the 2025 challenge is to encourage students to make time to read. Last year saw more than 216,000 children from around the state participate.
Book suggestions are available on the PRC website:
Every student who completes the challenge, and returns the completed record reader form, will receive a Certificate of Achievement. We look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible take part in the 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge.

VOLLEYBALL
Game 5
Jones Hill Green vs. Gympie Home School
Jones Hill Green Team put in an outstanding effort, with Sienna leading the team as Captain and receiving the first serve of the game. This set went point for point, resulting in a tie (30-30), and possibly a few more grey hairs for our families watching on. Whilst the team continued hard to work together and compete for the win, Gympie Home School took the win 23-34. Team Green is to be commended on their improved calling and getting three touches on the ball, which takes incredible teamwork. Player of the Match went to Sienna for her enthusiasm and strong desire to get to the ball as well as her improved serving. Another worthy mention goes to Will. Will checked in on one of the opponent team members who got hurt in the game. He held the game up to see if they were okay and this demonstrates the compassion and kindness, that as a school, we pride ourselves on.
Jones Hill Black vs. Victory College
Team Black took on the undefeated Victory College, led by their captain, Madeleine, who also won the playoff for the first serve of the match. Team Black knew it was going to be a tough game, yet they took the court with enthusiasm and the desire to win. Their goal this week was to remain positive by being loud and encouraging of one another. The team moved well and demonstrated the ability to read the play and support each other to identify their best defence positions. Marli received Player of the Match for her improvement in moving around the court as well as in passing and serving. Whilst we didn’t get the win, the team did not disappoint! Team Black held their own against Victory with the closest sets and game they’ve had yet, keeping them on their toes with a final result of 29-30 in the first set and an even more impressive 32-32 in the second set, only going down by 1 point! Whilst the team were slightly disappointed that they couldn’t pip them for the win, they proved they were no easy feat and we are so proud of them!
This Thursday (29/5/25), Jones Hill Green and Jones Hill Black go head-to-head at 4pm at Gympie State High School. Everyone is welcome to come along and support our Jones Hill S.S. teams!
