Leadership Team Report
Hi Everyone,
Thank you to our wonderful Volunteers
As the year starts to settle into a routine we would like to thank the many volunteers in our school. Parents helping in a classroom make a big difference. Their dedication and hard work help the students learn and they assist the teachers with many varied tasks. Tuckshop volunteers prepare the food and serve it to the students, along with a long list of behind the scene jobs. To all those who volunteer on the P&C tirelessly to make sure we have the best resources, thank you for giving up your precious time to volunteer in our school. Please know that we really appreciate your wonderful efforts.
Jake Garrett Foundation Day
Friday 26 February saw the school community all wear blue in support of the Jake Garrett Foundation. The foundation was established in April 2013 by Helen Garrett after the death of her son Jake Garrett. The foundation aims to support families who are dealing with the burden of losing a child. Helen Garrett is very grateful to the school for raising $356.95 to help the foundation.
2016 Student Leaders
Congratulations to our new student leaders who were presented with their badges at a special parade last Tuesday. A large number of parents attended the parade which was followed by a celebration morning tea. School Captains Charlotte K and Cooper R gave a very professional first speech to the school assembly. It was a great morning and we look forward to having the support of our new student leader team.
Canberra Trip
Plans for the trip are coming along nicely. The students grow more excited each week. If you are having difficulty making payments, please ring the office and we will be only too happy to make a payment plan that suits your needs.
Staff Professional Development
A number of staff attended a seminar delivered by Professor Michael Nagel titled, 'Sugar and Spice and All Things Gender Specific: Enhancing Learning Environments Through Understanding Neurology and "Brainsex".' The seminar covered the anatomical, chemical and functional differences between the brains of boys and girls. Staff were given a range of strategies to cater for these differences, to ensure all our students are given the best learning environment for them to grow and learn. Our staff will be presenting this information to the rest of the school community and with the hope of engaging Professor Nagel to deliver this interesting and relevant research.
Clean Up Australia Day
Congratulations to all our students and staff with the amazing clean-up of the grounds and fence areas for Clean Up Australia Day. I am pleased to say we did not collect large amounts of rubbish as our students have been great this term with using the bins and bringing litter free lunch boxes.
Parking
I would like to remind parents about the no parking zone near the crossing at the back gate. It is disappointing to see people pulling up in this area to collect their children. This puts the safety of our children at risks as approaching vehicles cannot see the children on the crossing. Please work with us to keep our students safe and alive.
Gympie High Leaders
At the Gympie State High School presentations a large number of former Jones Hill students were inducted into leadership roles for 2016. We would like to congratulate them on their commitment to their education and continuing to follow the Jones Hill School values; Safety, Relationship, Respect and Learning.

Chappy Chat
Wow, where has the year gone already? It feels like we just started school and now we're almost finished Term 1. For those who don't know me, I'm Chappy Caitlin and I'm here at Jones Hill School on Thursdays and Fridays. My role here is to support students, staff and parents with anything that may be happening. This term has seen breakfast club take off and I'm really enjoying catching up with the students who come along on Thursday mornings. I've also been working with different classes over this term and it has been great meeting the new students and teachers. If you see me around the school this year, feel free to come and say hi. If you want to have a chat with me just call the office to make a time.
Have a fantastic week! Looking forward to seeing you,
Chappy Caitlin

P&C News
BULB FUNDRAISING
To start the fundraising off this year we are having a Bulb Drive. Order forms for the bulbs have been sent home. Please have orders and money back to the office by Friday March 11. Orders will be handed out in the first week back of term 2, in plenty of time for Mother's Day.
Garden Express Fundraising provides every customer with free Growing Notes with their order. It outlines special requirements for all varieties, how deep to plant them, how far apart, when to plant them, when they flower, plus heaps more tips and ideas. It's all you need to have fantastic colour in your garden this Spring. Bulbs can look deceptively delicate, but they are surprisingly hardy and easy to grow.
BUNNINGS BBQ Saturday 12th March
Our first Bunnings BBQ stall is on Saturday 12th March. Volunteers are needed to help cook sausages and serve. We are hoping to make the shifts shorter this year but to do this we need more volunteers. It would be great if you can spare a couple of hours either in the morning or afternoon as we are there from 8am -4pm.
If you can spare some time please contact Sasha 0409 429 242 or Janessa 0438 832 973
EASTER RAFFLE
We are seeking donations for our annual Easter Raffle. If you are able to help us by donating eggs, bunnies or other Easter items please drop these to the office. Raffle tickets are available from the school office $1 per ticket. The raffle will be drawn at our final parade of the term Friday 18th March.
NON- UNIFORM DAY Friday 18th March
A non -uniform day will be held on Friday 18th March. The theme for the day is Rainbow. So come dressed in a sea of colours!! A gold coin donation is requested.
ELECTION DAY SAUSAGE SIZZLE Saturday 19th March
There is an election on Saturday 19th March. A sausage sizzle and home baking stall will be held outside the hall on the day. The stall will be from 7.30am till about 3.00pm. If you are able to spare an hour or so it would be greatly appreciated. Please leave your name at the office.
We also require home baking for this stall. Your baked goods can be dropped off at the office on Friday or directly to the stall on Saturday. Please supply a list of ingredients with your baking.
Kind Regards,
Jones Hill State School Fundraising Committee
FETE MEETING
We will have a Fete meeting in the school hall on Friday 11 March at 9:30am (after parade). Anyone interested in helping in anyway with the school fete is welcome to attend.

We are making Picture Products with funds raised helping cover bus costs for the students going to Canberra. Join the fun and turn your child's drawings, handprints and photos into beautiful, useful keepsakes that last a lifetime. We have a display of the Picture Plates in the library for you to view. Order forms and templates are available from the school office. Templates must be collected from here due to inability to crease, roll or fold the template. If your class is involved in a "whole of class" plate, then simply enclose correct payment, with students name and contact phone number in an envelope by due date. Delivery time will be approximately 7 weeks, arriving mid-June. No late orders taken as costs will increase. Last orders taken on Friday 15 April 2016.
