Leadership Team Report

Hi Everyone,

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our year 3 and 5 students who have taken part in NAPLAN. While I was walking through classrooms, I was very impressed with how students were concentrating and putting in their best effort. It can be a nerve racking time for students, teachers and parents. I am confident our students have put in their best effort and our good teaching and learning will be rewarded.

It is important to remember that while NAPLAN is a key aspect of the year, it does not define who our students are as members of our school community. While it can measure their success in writing, spelling, reading, math and language conventions over one week of a school year, it cannot take into account their abilities on the sporting field, in music and as a friend and classmate. All qualities that we value as a complete student.

LOST PROPERTY

As the mornings begin to become cooler, students will start wearing jumpers and jackets to school. It is a good time to check that all their clothing and equipment is clearly named in case they misplace something.

We have begun to accumulate a large amount of lost property under the old admin block. If your child is missing something please check there for it. Also please check the collection Mr Nord has in the box near the front desk in the Library.

CANBERRA TRIP

Today Tuesday, 17 May, there will be a meeting for parents and caregivers in the school library at 4:30 pm. The meeting is for parents and students to ask any questions that they may have to do with the Canberra Trip. Staff attending will talk to you about the travel arrangements, student groups, go through the itinerary and other various aspects of the trip. Please have all forms filled in and returned before this time so if there are any queries we can address them now. For those who cannot attend, please feel free to make an appointment through the office to meet with a Canberra staff member who can answer all your questions.

Congratulations to the parents who fundraised for this trip. Your efforts were outstanding! The fundraising will pay for the student's morning tea, the bus to and from the airport, $50 off the final invoice, leaving $300 for our contingency while we are away. Thank you to this dedicated group of parents and well done to all the students who participated in the fundraising activities to help raise the funds for your trip.

Please note that all outstanding money for the Canberra trip must be paid to the school by May 31 and the final payment of $152 before Monday June 13. If your payments are not current by these dates we will be contacting you regarding your student's attendance on the trip. We are required to pay the full amount for the excursion to the contractors before June 24. If you think that you will be unable to achieve this please let James Watt or Helen Grogan know as soon as possible.

CAR PARK SAFETY

Recently some parents have been driving through the staff car park to drop off and pick up students, as well as walking their children through the car park. Please do not do this. It is placing both students and staff in danger. There are several gates that are to be used and the staff car park is not one of them.

SPORTS DAY

Our 2016 Annual Sports Day is planned for Thursday 23 June. Students will get a chance to test their skills and compete with each other in a variety of races and events. It is also a great chance for the whole family to enjoy a fun day together cheering and supporting their sports house team mates.  Please mark this date in your calendars.

The long distance races will be held on Tuesday 21 June.

Chappy Chat

Welcome to Chappy Week!!! We have some wonderful things planned to celebrate and to also raise money to make sure that Chaplaincy stays here at Jones Hill. This week we have our coffee fundraiser at Toucan Coffee where every hot drink purchased with a Chappy coupon will see $1 donated to Chaplaincy. (Coupons available from our school office) We also have a free dress day on Friday (20th of May) to raise money for Chaplaincy. This money raised will go towards equipment and programs here at school. Then on the 28th of May, we have a team riding in Spin Off to raise money for us here at Jones Hill. This wonderful team have given up their time to raise money and I am grateful for that. If you would like to donate to this team, head to the link below and click on me, Caitlin Harch, to donate to Jones Hill State School. Alternatively you can catch me at school before then and have a chat with me.
