Volunteers are required to help on Sports Day. Some of the jobs that need covering are the BBQ, food preparation and the big one is helping hand out the lunches in the breaks to students. We understand that you would like to watch your child compete in their events and spend time with them on the day. Please know that we are totally flexible and if you can donate time in the canteen either preparing or handing out lunches, you are fine to leave at any time to watch your child compete. Please consider helping as it has many benefits such as meeting new people, helping raise money for the school and providing a service to our students. Please leave a comment on Facebook or leave your name at the office if you are able to help in any way for any amount of time.
Dance Fever Lessons
If your child is not attending Dance Fever Lessons you will need to make an appointment to see the principal as soon as possible. Dance Fever is curriculum based (as is swimming) and will be in the report card for Semester 2.

School Photos
Our School Photos will be taken on Friday August 12th 2016.
- Envelopes for ordering will be sent home this week
- Please use a separate envelope for each child
- Children need to be in their school uniform (green shirts) on this day.
For the convenience of our school community, school photos can be ordered and paid for online using a secure online platform (see flyer inside your envelope).
PLEASE NOTE: Orders placed online DO NOT require an envelope to be handed in.
Envelope Orders: photos can also be purchased in the traditional manner using an envelope, with cash/cheque enclosed. Please send your envelope to school on or before photo day.
The preference of our school is that orders and payments be made online, as this reduces the administration and associated security issues related to the return of cash & envelopes on photo day.
To place your order visit the AdvancedLife website and enter the code- FWQ 37K K51. This code can also be found printed on your envelope. Please be aware that-
- All online orders should be placed on or before our day of photography.
- The online code above may also be used to order sports and other group photos.
All orders placed online will be delivered to the school for collection.

QParents is Coming
In Term 3 Jones Hill State School will be offering parents to take part in our new online application that provides parents and carers of Queensland state school students with a convenient new way to access their child’s student information.
Parents will have secure, online access to their child’s student information, anytime, anywhere, through a smartphone, tablet or computer.
QParents allows parents to connect instantly with their child’s school to access and manage their child’s student information, including:
- Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of an absence
- Behaviour information
- Academic report cards
- Class timetables
- Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
- Viewing and updating personal student details, including medical conditions and address
- Enrolment details
QParents will assist both staff and parents in sharing and responding to information in an efficient and effective way.
QParents won’t replace the traditional ways you communicate with our school, but it will provide another way to communicate with us.
More information about QParents can be found at;
https://qparents.qld.edu.au/
Premier’s Reading Challenge 2016
- The Premier’s Reading Challenge is on again starting 16th May and finishing 26th August.
- Reading Record sheets will be given to every class this week and the teachers will send them home. Please record the books your child reads on the sheet – it must be signed by the parent.
- The Prep teachers will complete the reading record sheet at school.
- The children who complete the challenge receive a certificate – this is a great way to reward our readers!
Happy Reading,
Stacey Seed
NRL Development Cup
We are Proud!
On Wednesday the 1st of June the Jones Hill under 12’s rugby league team participated in round two of the NRL Development Cup. The team played fifty solid minutes of rugby league against Nanango resulting in a twenty six point draw. As there was no overtime or golden point offered to determine the absolute winners of the match, it came down to the team who scored the first try. This decision is simply based on chance and not the raw strength and skill of a team. Unfortunately it was Nanango that scored the first try, the referee’s decision was final. Despite the outcome, our players played hard for themselves, they played hard for their team and most importantly they played hard to represent their school. To each and every player, the Jones Hill school community thanks you and acknowledges you as being true competitors in one of the toughest sports on our planet.
I also want to say a special thank you to the parents and family members for providing support and transport for the players, your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
Yours respectfully,
Guy Littler

The Mad Food Science Program
The Mad Food Science Program™ is a fun, interactive educational incursion that uses quirky experiments to get children to understand key health messages.
The main objectives of the program are:
- for children to take responsibility for what they put in their mouth
- for children and parents to understand how food affects concentration and behaviour in the classroom
- for children to start conversations about healthy food choices at home with their parents
- for parents and children to make better food choices together - both at home, and in the school lunchbox
- to help overcome the parent-child power struggle about food
The Mad Food Science Program™ is a 90-minute hands-on session held at your school, in groups of up to 85-90 children at a time.
It features thought-provoking conversations, engaging experiments, and a taste-test for every student. Students regularly change their behaviour around food immediately after attending the program.
Concepts covered include the following:
- Understand your body, why it is different to everyone else’s and responds differently to different foods
- Learn how food can affect mood and concentration
- Explore the differences between real food and “pretend food”, and why our bodies need more real food
- What do packet labels actually mean, and how to read them
- Why it’s important to talk about food with parents
Each student will receive a complimentary handout - donated by our National Partner Worldwide Printing Solutions.
The School also gets access to 20 weeks’ worth of free lunchbox tips to send out via the school newsletter / social media, which continue the conversation about healthy eating within the school community.

Jones Hill State School Adopt-a-Cop Program
During parade last Friday we introduced our new Adopt-a-Cop, Constable Lars Nezbit, to our school Community. The Adopt-a-Cop program was implemented in 1985 to build positive relationships between police and members of the school community through the voluntary appointment of Adopt-a-Cops to schools and other relevant organisations. The program is an integral part of policing and reflects a greater emphasis on police partnerships with the community. Currently there are over 950 Adopt-a-Cops performing duties in over 1100 Queensland schools. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Lars to Jones Hill School.
BPoint
Jones Hill State School currently offers parent/caregivers an online payment system which provides schools with a secure and efficient method of collecting payments. Unlike BPAY, BPOINT allows payments to be made with an invoice number, eliminating any extra work the school staff may have to undertake in allocating payments from parents. It is the preferred payment method of the school due to the efficiencies that automated receipting brings to schools. The picture below outlines the information that you need to complete the transaction from your invoice provided by the school. The BPoint link is to be made available on our website or visit
