Leadership Team Report

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to Term 3!

I hope you had an enjoyable and restful break. We had a great time on long service leave with our trip to Cape York. It is a bit of a shock coming back to our temperatures when we have had 31 degrees for the last month. It was great to get back to Thursday Island and around the beautiful waterfalls of the Cape. Our youngest daughter turned 3 while we were at the Tip and had many admirers as she toured around in her Minnie Mouse dress!

This week we welcome 6 new families to Jones Hill. I am sure you will enjoy the great environment and friendliness of our school.

Sports Day

Our 2016 Sports Day was a great day. Congratulations to our students for joining in all events with great enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. A big thank you to all involved on sports day, your hard work contributed greatly to the smooth running of the day. Special thanks to Mr David Walters for his great organisation of the sports carnival and the events prior to sports day. Congratulations also to Mr Bob Cole for his great announcing skills, we really appreciate you support. Thank you also to our great P&C for keeping everyone well fed.

All teams put in a big effort with Doran scoring 1254.5 points and Radford scoring 1387. Congratulations to our winning team McPaul who scored a massive 1612.5 points.

Age Champions for 2016 were:

Opinion Surveys

The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted from 11 to 29 July 2016. All families, school staff and a random sample of students will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what this school does well, and how this school can improve. We value this feedback for future planning and decision making.

Access details for the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be sent home with students this week. If you do not receive this information, please see the ladies in the office for a copy. Parents/caregivers are welcome to complete their survey online at the school, and school computers will be available before and after school and during the school lunch breaks. Survey queries or requests can be directed to James Watt or Helen Grogan.

Canberra Trip

On Sunday we farewelled our year 5&6 students on Jones Hill's inaugural Canberra Camp. 45 students and 5 staff have arrived safe and well in Canberra to less than Queensland style weather!

Staff on the trip posted this update:

The take off in the plane was amazing. The children who had never flown before being were being comforted by the seasoned flyers lol. As we had lift off the whole plane could hear lots of OMGs and excited giggles. The flight was a perfect length and the children were equally impressed with our landing as they were with the take off. As the plane made its approach into Sydney airport, everyone could see the Opera House and Sydney Harbour which sent the students into a flurry of photo taking. After a further 4 hour bus ride the troop made it safely to the Canberra home for the next 6 days. Our latest reports are that all have slept well and are looking forward to learning more about the Australia's Capital City and its hidden treasures. Today they are off to the Australian War Memorial and Parliament House. Tonight they will brave 3 degrees in preparation for their trip to the snow later in the week.

You can follow their adventures on our school FaceBook page.

School Photos

Our School Photos will be taken on Friday August 12th 2016.

  • Envelopes for ordering have been sent home
  • Please use a separate envelope for each child
  • Children need to be in their school uniform (green shirts) on this day.

For the convenience of our school community, school photos can be ordered and paid for online using a secure online platform (see flyer inside your envelope).

PLEASE NOTE: Orders placed online DO NOT require an envelope to be handed in.

Envelope Orders: photos can also be purchased in the traditional manner using an envelope, with cash/cheque enclosed. Please send your envelope to school on or before photo day.

The preference of our school is that orders and payments be made online, as this reduces the administration and associated security issues related to the return of cash & envelopes on photo day.

To place your order visit the link below and enter the code- FWQ 37K K51. This code can also be found printed on your envelope. Please be aware that-

  1. All online orders should be placed on or before our day of photography.
  2. The online code above may also be used to order sports and other group photos.

All orders placed online will be delivered to the school for collection.

QParents is Coming

In Term 3 Jones Hill State School will be offering parents the opportunity to take part in our new online application that provides parents and carers of Queensland state school students with a convenient new way to access their child's student information.

Parents will have secure, online access to their child's student information, anytime, anywhere, through a smartphone, tablet or computer.

QParents allows parents to connect instantly with their child's school to access and manage their child's student information, including:

  • Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of an absence
  • Behaviour information
  • Academic report cards
  • Class timetables
  • Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
  • Viewing and updating personal student details, including medical conditions and address
  • Enrolment details

QParents will assist both staff and parents in sharing and responding to information in an efficient and effective way.

QParents won't replace the traditional ways you communicate with our school, but it will provide another way to communicate with us.

Premier's Reading Challenge 2016

  • The Premier's Reading Challenge is on again starting 16th May and finishing 26th August.
  • Reading Record sheets will be given to every class this week and the teachers will send them home. Please record the books your child reads on the sheet – it must be signed by the parent.
  • The Prep teachers will complete the reading record sheet at school.
  • The children who complete the challenge receive a certificate – this is a great way to reward our readers!

Happy Reading, Stacey Seed

BPoint

Jones Hill State School currently offers parent/caregivers an online payment system which provides schools with a secure and efficient method of collecting payments. Unlike BPAY, BPOINT allows payments to be made with an invoice number, eliminating any extra work the school staff may have to undertake in allocating payments from parents. It is the preferred payment method of the school due to the efficiencies that automated receipting brings to schools. The picture below outlines the information that you need to complete the transaction from your invoice provided by the school. The BPoint link is to be made available on our website or visit:

On Saturday 18th June Jones Hill Marimba and Djembe groups had their first public performance as entertainment at the Kid and Teens Voices auditions at the Civic Centre. Jones Hill also had 2 entrants, Sam P and Emily K. All performers did very well but Emily made it into the Kids and Teens semi- finals to be held at the Gold Coast shortly. She has also been made an offer for involvement in a musical in Brisbane following her performance. Well done all for doing Jones Hill proud!
