SWPBS

Over the past 2 weeks our focus has been on being a considerate learner in both classroom and playground settings. Prep C have discussed the importance of helping and co-operating with other students, being willing to learn, accepting others and following instructions. We talked about how our classroom environment is such a happy place when we’re all considerate learners.

Students in Prep C have demonstrated their knowledge through drawing and explaining what it means to them to be a considerate learner. Some of their ideas include:

  • Helping my friends by being kind and caring
  • Working quietly at our desks
  • Playing safely on the playground
  • Showing good manners
  • Sitting on the carpet and listening

LEMS PHONICS

LEM Phonics News

The LEM committee are busy planning another LEM phonics session for all parents and carers in the Jones Hill school community. This session will take place on Wednesday the 3rd of May from 5:00 to 6:00pm in the library. Everyone is most welcome to attend and free babysitting will be provided.

In week 1 we covered rule No. 8. Use ‘a’ for the /o/ sound if preceded by a /w/ sound. (w, wh, qu)

5 2 5
e.g. was what
5
qual•it•y

In week 2 our rule was No.9. English words can’t end in ‘i’; use ‘y’ instead. e.g. hap•py

Next week our rule will be No. 10. ‘g’usually says its first sound when followed by ‘a’, ‘o’ ‘’u’ or a consonant.

e.g. game got gut grass

Here are some of the explanation marks that students are learing to use. These marks explain any rules pertaining to the word and are introduced gradually.

Learn A line under letters indicates a Multiple Phonogram.

∙This marking indicates a syllable break.

This marking indicates an arch from the vowel to the Silent Servant ‘e’.
