LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

As this is our last newsletter for the term, I would like to wish you a safe and happy break and look forward to the start of next term. Thank you to all our parents who have helped with various jobs and tasks throughout the term, from excursions to reading to daily classroom help. You make Jones Hill the positive environment that it is.

Term 3 commences on Monday 10 July.

Non-Uniform Day

This Friday, 16 June we are holding a non-uniform day. Students can dress in blue & white and bring a gold coin donation in support of the Queensland Police and their families. Clothing must be sun-safe and shoes must be closed in.

Prep 2018

We are beginning the 2018 prep enrolment process. So far spots have been filing quickly with 42 students already on the list. If you have a prep aged child for 2018, please contact the school to put them on the list.

Parents who are on the prep list will be contacted for enrolment interviews beginning mid-term 3. Our prep transition program gets into full swing next term with a range of activities, starting with the Pop Up Adventure Play Day on July 20. If you would like a copy of the activities please contact the office.

Holiday Care

In this newsletter you will find a link to a survey on the reintroduction of Holiday Care. We have negotiated with Camp Australia to survey our community on the interest in holiday care. If the survey has a positive response (approximately 18 students) of families who would use the service, they will reintroduce it. If holiday care is of interest to you, please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Please click on the link above to access more information and the survey.

Report Cards

Report cards will be issued in the last week of term. While parent, teacher meetings are conducted in terms 1 & 3, parents are always welcome to make an appointment to discuss the report cards if needed.

Uniform Survey

Thank you to the parents who responded to the uniform survey on jacket and pants colours. This information will be used to help inform Uniform Policy decisions.

Broncos Challenge

Good luck to our boys who will play in the Broncos Challenge on Thursday. Thank you to Mr Rentz and Darren Burns who have worked with the boys in the lead up.

Sports Days

Students have been taking part in sporting activities for the last few weeks leading up to our annual sports day on Friday 23 June. A big thank you to all our staff who have worked at lunchtimes and throughout the term to prepare students for the events.

Well done to the students who have put in their best efforts all the way through. We are looking forward to Next Friday and a great finish to the term.

A reminder to get in your food orders by this Friday if you are ordering tuckshop for the sports day.

GREEN DAY

This term we will again celebrate Green Day. Green Day is a recognition of students in Years 1 to 6 who have achieved 95% or greater with their attendance and behaviour during the term. The children who did not make the benchmark on this occasion will have the opportunity again next term. They will remain with their class teacher participating in normal learning activities.

Kind Regards,
James Watt and Helen Grogan

Behaviour Focus

The most important thing we can teach children is self-control. Self-control is what enables us to live in such a complex society. Self-control is the ability to make yourself do things that you may not want to do. Mastery of self-control enables students to achieve their best. Any excuse a student gives for not following expectations comes down to a lack of self-control. There are no other reasons, no one else to blame but your lack of self-control to deal with a situation in the correct manner.

One of our behaviour focuses this week is transitioning between subjects, classes and before and after school.

Expectations are:

  • Walk safely between play areas and buildings
  • Stay together as a class group when moving around school
  • Know correct procedures for transition times e.g. bells, lining up
  • Be organised and on time
  • Respect bell times and lining up routines
  • Move quietly and show respect to other classes
  • Show consideration for others when lining up or moving around school

Meeting these expectations helps, keep students stay safe, the classroom run smoothly and makes the most of the students learning time.

LEMS PHONICS

The last fortnight of the term is dedicated to revising the rules and phonograms that we have been very busy learning. The vowel sounds are important for students to master. Here is a quick recap of the letter ‘a’ and its sounds and rules.

PREP 2018

Do you or someone you know have a child who will be attending Prep in 2018? Please contact our administration staff regarding registration. For information about our Prep Transition program please click on the link below.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

  • The Premier’s Reading Challenge has started and finishes the 25th August.
  • Please record the books your child reads on the sheet – it must be signed by the parent.
  • The Prep teachers will complete the reading record sheet at school.
  • If you lose the Reading Record sheet or did not receive one, just ask at the office.
  • The children who complete the challenge receive a certificate – this is a great way to reward our readers!

Happy Reading, Stacey Seed
