LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
THANK YOU
Thank you to our P&C for all the hard work that has gone into organising volunteers and shifts for this year’s Muster. All the proceeds go back to supporting our students. For all those who volunteered to help out at the Muster, we would like to thank you also for your support in our school. There will be a Muster briefing in the school library this Wednesday, 23 August; to explain everything you need to know about your shift at the Muster. It will be held at 5pm and will not take very long so please come along. If you have questions about what time your shift is we can let you know Wednesday night or please contact the school office.
QUEENSLAND SELECTION
Congratulations to Brayden L who has been selected to play in the Queensland under 14 roller hockey team. Brayden will compete at the Champions Cup in Brisbane in September then at the Australia Day Cup in Dandenong in January for U14 Australian selections. Good Luck!
SPRING FESTIVAL
On October 13 Jones Hill School will celebrate Spring with our Spring Festival. There will be something for everyone at our Spring Festival. We will have many displays, most interactive, that will showcase our local rural produce, livestock and homegrown talent. The theme of the Spring Festival is sustainability and we will be educating the students about reusing materials, reducing waste and recycling. Many of the activities on the day require ‘used’ materials and to keep costs down we are asking that if you have any of the following and now have no use for, to send them into the school office for use on the day.
- Packets of seeds (flowers/vegetables) Toilet Rolls
- Bags of manure Potting Mix
- Buttons Old Socks
- Sewing needles
- Old Magazines (glossy ones are best)
- Egg Cartons
- Cardboard Milk Cartons
- Pot Plants that are no longer wanted
Don’t forget about our competitions on the day;
- Dads – Enter a cake that you have cooked and decorated
- Mums – A construction made from recycled materials (ie photo frames, wind chimes etc)
Family and friends are most welcome on the day. There will be delicious food and drink available all day. We can’t wait to see you there.
CYBER SAFETY
Recently there have been some concerns raised over students online behaviour.
Attached to this newsletter are some important tips and information on keeping your child safe online.
Most online social media requires children to be at least 13 years of age. If you are allowing your child onto social media before then, you are placing them at risk.
Social media for students is a serious decision and should not be taken lightly or because other parents allow their underage child on there.
Social media can be a positive experience if managed appropriately. On the other hand it can be a very damaging experience if children are exposed to inappropriate content or behaviours.
Please take the time to look at the information below and make the online world as safe as possible for your children.
WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN
Thank you to everyone who has been collecting the stickers for our school. Please remember to drop the tickets into the box at our school office.
OLD SHOES
Do you have any clean old pairs of joggers or walking shoes? We require a number of pairs for an upcoming art project. Please drop any you have to our school office.

STUDENT LEADER NEWS
NINJA WARRIOR NEWS
Students enjoyed a Mummy Relay as part of the Jones Hill School Ninja Warriors challenge. While the toilet paper did not work as anticipated, students had a great deal of fun. We will have a Ninja Warrior day each Wednesday of Term 3 at first break where students can join in all the fun games on the oval.
PUPPY NEWS
On Friday August 11 students had a free dress day to raise awareness and money for a litter of Guide Dog Puppies. These puppies will become highly disciplined, skilled and dependable; they offer an enhanced quality of life for individuals with impaired vision and children with severe Autism – and their families. They can really make all the difference to someone’s quality of life. We have been able to see their birth certificate and photos of the puppies as they grow. Their names are Connie, Curtis, Coral, Chilli, Cassie, Cooper and Coco.
SWPBS
For Week 5 our SWPBS focus has been Transitioning around the school grounds, that is how we moved between subjects, classes and before and after school. In the classroom 4Z has discussed examples and non-examples of expected behaviours, and we are proud to demonstrate our knowledge.
We know that we need to:
- Walk safely between play areas and buildings
- Stay together as a class group when moving around school
- Know correct procedures for transition times e.g. bells, lining up
- Be organised and on time
- Respect bell times and lining up routines
- Move quietly and show respect to other classes
- Show consideration for others when lining up or moving around school
If we all continue to remember these things it will help our school day to run smoothly and all classes will be able to maximise their learning time.
In Week 6 we have focussed on Learning/Safety/Respect/Relationships – before and after school & toilet routines. Before school students should be waiting in the undercover area until the 8:30 bell goes. After that time, the Library and Classrooms begin to open and students may move to those areas. Once the 8:50 bell rings students are reminded to go to the toilet then promptly join the line up in the undercover area. It has been pleasing to see the improvement in how well students are lining up ready to start the day. Let’s keep it up!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
- The Premier’s Reading Challenge has started and finishes the 25th August.
- Please record the books your child reads on the sheet – it must be signed by the parent.
- The Prep teachers will complete the reading record sheet at school.
- If you lose the Reading Record sheet or did not receive one, just ask at the office.
- The children who complete the challenge receive a certificate – this is a great way to reward our readers!
Happy Reading, Stacey Seed
