LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
SHOWCASE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE
The Gympie Mathematics Alliance (GMA), which Jones Hill State School has been an integral part of since 2015, was announced as the State Winner of the prestigious Channel 10 Showcase Award for Excellence (early and primary years). This award was announced after a rigorous process of submissions and interviews, at a Gala dinner at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Friday the 27th of October.
The State award is a great acknowledgement of the dedicated work of the 150 teachers who are members of our Alliance. Their excellent work in mathematics has had a positive effect on over 2800 Gympie students, who are becoming confident and creative mathematicians.
The success of the Gympie Mathematics Alliance has meant that other clusters of schools (effecting over 29 000 students) have adopted some of our teaching methods and our nationally recognised resources (designed by teachers in Gympie). Thank you to all of the parents who have supported our Bangers and Math nights (there will be another one in 2018) and encouraged their students at home in mathematics.
TUCKSHOP NEWS
Last Friday our school said goodbye to Jo McEwan who has served as our tuckshop convenor for 10 years. We would like to thank her for her service and dedication to our school and its students.
Our new convenor Jodie Benyon has been welcomed to the school and looks forward to working in the newly named ‘Gum Tree Café’. With over 100 entries in the tuckshop naming competition, Tyler R from 1B was very happy to have his suggestion chosen.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Jones Hill School were represented on the weekend by two teams at Gympie Relay for Life. Ten year 6 students participated in the Primary Schools section, they had a great time and we are very proud of their efforts. We were very happy to be awarded the Highest Fundraising Trophy for Primary School and would like thank anyone who helped with this. In total our two teams raised over $5600. Our senior team, made up of school staff, family and friends walked through the night and although extremely tired are already talking about next year’s relay.
