LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back to the start of term 2. I hope you had a restful break and are ready for the next ten weeks!
I would like to congratulate the 180 students who attended Green Day and took part in the celebration of 95% attendance and green behaviour. Well Done!
Our Enrolment Management Plan (EMP) begins this term with our capacity being revised to 450 students during the holidays. We are currently writing the documents that will accompany the EMP and they will be uploaded to our website in the next few weeks. The main factor to be aware of is that we are restricted to 64 prep students. Now more than ever it is important to ensure your child’s name is on the prep list for 2019. The list is currently filling and a waiting list for students out of catchment is under way. All students residing in the catchment area are assured of a place.
Attendance
Good attendance is extremely important for children to improve their learning, feel part of the school, have social interactions, build resilience, confidence, persistence and lifelong skills to become confident, productive citizens in their communities.
At Jones Hill SS we aim for 95% attendance or greater for all of our students. Below are the attendance figures from term 1. Congratulations to all of our classes and students for their excellent attendance and hard work during last term.
Term 1 Attendance Figures
Prep – 94.3%
Year 1 – 92.99%
Year 2 – 94.33%
Year 3 – 94.79%
Year 4 – 92.73%
Year 5 – 95.88%
Year 6 – 94.83%
If your child is sick, we ask that you contact the school on 54890 555 and explain the reason for their absence or you can phone the Student Absence number 5489 0566 and leave a message with your child’s full name and reason for the absence.
ANZAC DAY
ANZAC Day March - On Wednesday we will take part in the ANZAC DAY march in Mary Street. Jones Hill School has a proud history of strong support and attendance at this important event. I would encourage all students to attend and march with the school.
We will be meeting at 10am in front of the Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse in Mary Street. The march begins at 10:30am and proceeds through Mary Street and finishes in the Memorial Park in Reef Street.
Students will need to wear full school uniform and a hat. Please apply sunscreen before attending the march. Children may also wear red or purple poppies or family medals, if appropriate. Children can be collected from the Memorial Park at the conclusion of the march.
Dawn Service - Members of our School Leadership team will also be attending the Dawn Service in the Memorial Lane Cenotaph, Reef Street. The service will begin at 5am. We welcome any students or parents to join us at the service.

SWPBS
We have had a wonderful start back to the term with all students engaged in learning and having great working relationships.
Over the next two weeks we will be focussed on learning and respect.
Classes will discuss how good learners follow expectations in the playgrounds, at eating times and when transitioning. Students will think about these statements:
- Know where you should be at all times
- Follow adult instructions and directions
- Play correctly and follow the expectations
Students will then be focused on how showing respect in the classroom stops disruptions to learning. Students will discuss and work on activities that outline how working quietly, listening to instructions and respecting the teacher and students allow everyone to learn to the best of their ability.

MEET OUR STAFF
Hi school community members,
My name is Fiona Newcombe and I have been teaching for 20 years. I grew up in Adelaide and moved to Queensland with my parents during year 12. I studied at QUT and after graduating, I worked in remote WA for 4 years, before moving to Gympie in 2004. I have two grown-up sons with a grandchild on the way. I enjoy the quiet, peaceful, relaxing country life living on 15 acres West of town. I have recently become a volunteer rural firefighter and perform many jobs in the local community. I enjoy the brigade nights at the “Bushman’s Bar” where I get to mingle with local members of the community while volunteering in the kitchen. I also have a good mechanical knowledge which allows me to help others, service small machines and repair cars and small electrical equipment.
In my 20 year teaching career, I have worked with students from pre-school age to grade 12. This is my third year at Jones Hill and I am currently teaching year 5. Many students I taught, that have now finished school, still ask me for help and advice, which makes me feel like I have made a difference in their life. I love teaching and watching those “A-ha” moments when something becomes clear. I find teaching challenging at times although extremely rewarding. I enjoy getting to know students and how they learn best so I can provide opportunities for them to reach their potential.
