LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

BURRUMBUTTOCK HAY RUNNERS

On the 7th of September we are fundraising for the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners. It is a gold coin donation to dress up as one of your farm friends.

Some examples of what to dress up as are, farmer, cow, tractor, garden bed, straw hat. Feel free to think up your own ideas.

GYMPIE DISTRICT ATHLETICS TRIALS

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Gympie District Athletics Trials last week. We know you all put in a great effort. Mrs Bates, who accompanied our students said “each and every one of the students gave it their all and achieved to the best of their ability. She was extremely proud of their efforts.”

The following athletes have been selected for Wide Bay Regional Trials.

PREP 2019 - SECURE YOUR PLACE NOW

We encourage all parents interested in enrolling in Prep for 2019 to enrol their child as soon as possible as vacancies are filling fast.

To enrol your child in our Prep program please contact the school office by phone on 5489 0555, email admin@jonehillss.eq.edu.au or visit us in person. Enrolment interviews will take place this term and your child will need to attend this appointment with you. Some interview times are available.

Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation for your child's education. From 2017 it became compulsory for Queensland children to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-time program in primary schools. Children must be 5 by 30 June in the year they enrol. Please follow the link provided for more information.

To help our new Prep students to have a smooth transition to school we are holding a number of transition days for them and their parents to attend. Full details of these days are available by clicking on the link below.

SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY- FOR PARENTS

We value parent’s opinions and feedback of our school.

The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted 30 July to 24 August 2018. All families, school staff and a random sample of students will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to provide input into what we do and how we can improve.

Access details for the Parent/Caregiver Survey have been sent home with students. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with internet connection.

JONES HILL’S GOT TALENT

The search for talent is on again. The 2018 Jones Hill’s Got Talent competition will be held at first break on Wednesday August 22 & 29 and September 5 in the hall. A sign-up sheet is in the library, please list your name, class and talent. Competitors will need to bring their own costumes and music. Competition winners will be announced on parade.

CARE PACKAGES

Continuing the great Jones Hill Spirit this year we are planning to collect and distribute care packages to our troops serving overseas and the explosive detection dogs.

These men, women and animals do a magnificent job under very difficult circumstances to serve our country and ensure the world is a better place.

To support these wonderful efforts, classes will collect items that can be sent as Care Packages. Classes have chosen to collect items for either a male soldier, female soldier or explosive detection dog (EDD).

All items need to be at the school by Friday, September 7.

Preferred items for Male and Female Soldiers:

1 x Pack of Schick DisposableRazors – Male/Female
1 x NON-AEROSOL ShavingCream – Male/Female

BOOK WEEK

Book week is August 20 to 24.

Our Book week dress up day will be held on Friday August 24. All students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. This year’s theme is FIND YOUR TREASURE.

So have fun exploring the magic of books, escape into a story and ask: where will your reading take you?

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has started and finishes August 24.

  • Please record the books your child reads on the sheet – it must be signed by the parent.
  • The Prep teachers will complete the reading record sheet at school.
  • If you lose the Reading Record sheet or did not receive one, just ask at the office.
  • The children who complete the challenge receive a certificate – this is a great way to reward our readers!

LEM Phonics

Thank you to all the parents who came along to our Parent LEM session. It was a great night and parents were able to take a LEM pack home that consisted of all of the LEM phonograms and some activities to play at home.

Over the next few weeks, students will be learning the following LEM rules:

We are looking for donations for the Father’s day Stall. Some suggestions of items to donate are:

Any items would be greatly appreciated. All items can be left at the school office.

RELAY FOR LIFE

JONESY’S 5 CENT CHALLENGE

Each year Jonesy, our school Relay for Life Mascot, runs a class competition to raise funds for the school’s year 6 Relay Team. Money is collected in the classrooms from August 1 to August 31. The class which raises the most money will be presented with the annual trophy at parade, September 7.

So start collecting your small change ready for the August challenge. Any denomination accepted.

STAFFROOM IMPROVEMENT COMPETITION

The staffroom for Improvement competition is all about turning the tables and giving teachers and school support staff an A+ report. Enter the competition and Jones Hill School will get the chance to win a $20 000 staffroom makeover.

MARY VALLEY RATTLER

The Mary Valley Rattler is back on track!

We have now commenced driver training operations on the Mary Valley Rattler line.

Please be aware around rail crossings and exercise caution around the railway corridor.

Driver Training Operations are currently running on a daily basis and at varied times.

The Mary Valley Rattler rail corridor is now an accredited rail operation – for your own safety at no time is anyone to be on the track, on the bridges or restricting rail crossings.

What does that mean for you?

  • Increased activity at rail crossings
  • Make sure your kids are aware
  • Look out for flashing lights and signage especially at level crossings
  • Rolling stock includes small track maintenance vehicles which can be easily missed or not heard

Safety First - Please obey all rail corridor signage.

The Nippers program is all about getting kids fit and active, about educating them about the beach and the surf and about having fun along the way. It’s about being part of a great club and maybe one day these kids may choose to become lifesavers themselves.

It's a great family activity, and at the least, what children learn at nippers could one day save a life, be that their own or someone else's.
