LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

YEARBOOK

Our 2018 Yearbooks have arrived. If you have ordered and paid please come to the office to collect your copy.

There is still time to purchase a Year Book. If you have not ordered simply come our office and pick one up for $15 or send through your order form with payment.

PREP 2019 - SECURE YOUR PLACE NOW

Our Prep Information Evening is on tomorrow night. Full details are below. Please R.S.V.P. for catering purposes.

2018 Prep Information Evening

Thursday October 25
B.B.Q. from 5:30pm
Information session 6:15pm
Covered Prep Play Area

This evening will provide parents with specific information about Prep and how to prepare your child for the first day of school. You will have the opportunity to meet with key staff and ask questions.

DAY FOR DANIEL

This Friday is Day for Daniel. Staff and students are invited to wear red and bring a gold coin donation to support child safety.

2019 SRS

Student Resource Scheme permission forms were sent home prior to the holidays. This form must be returned whether you are joining the scheme or not. Forms need to be returned by Friday 26 October and either full payment or a payment plan form attached by Friday 1 December. We have made some changes to the stationery list with input from parents and staff but the cost will remain the same at $120.

Families who make full payment before the end of the school year will go into the draw to win a LOWES voucher of $100 to purchase school uniforms.

For those parents who do not wish to join the program, a non-participation fee of $40 will be charged and you will be required to purchase a full stationery list. Parents will also need to pay for extra learning activity consumables such as cooking and computer programs, such as Reading Eggs and books that only the school can provide such as the Pat-R reading booklets. Due to the changes on the list, this year it is important that only the items on the list are purchased. Teachers have planned their stationery around the SRS and it is disruptive to the students when they do not have the same items as the rest of the class.

In week 4 our Djembe group will play and the following week the Marimba ensemble will perform.

SWIMMING

The Prep students had their first swimming lesson at Deep Blue Aquatics last week and did a great job. We were so impressed with their swimming skills and how quickly they changed.

Due to the Gympie South School pool being unavailable due to storm damage the following classes

3/4P, 4ML, 4W, 5C, 5N, 6C and 6G will have their swimming lessons in weeks 4 to 10. This gives them a ‘make up’ lesson for the one missed in week 2.

GYMPIE DISTRICT SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR NOMINEES

Congratulations to the following students who have been nominated for the Gympie District Sportsperson of the Year. Cody F, Billy R and Wyatt D. The boys have represented our school in numerous sporting events and we are proud of their achievements. Good luck to all of the boys. The Gympie District Sportsperson of the Year is announced on the 8th November.

BOOK FAIR

Last week we had another very successful Book Fair. There were many great books on offer and students had no trouble finding books in their favourite genre. A popular book was “Do Not Open This Book” by Andy Lee which has now been read in a number of classrooms and by many students.

Thank you to all the parent, students and staff who made purchases. This is a great way to promote reading while helping the school get new resources.

ART SHOW

Our year 6 students are holding an Art Show to raise funds for their graduation. All classes are displaying items and an afternoon in available for adults.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The Premier's Reading Challenge was a fantastic success with students involved in reading many books at home and at school. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents and teachers for supporting students to reach their reading goals.

We are very excited to receive a prize for our efforts, with the Premier's Reading Challenge of $300 to spend in our library. Congratulations to all of our students!

YOU CAN DO IT

SCHOOL-WIDE CARING BOX APPEAL

“You Can Do It” is involving the whole school in encouraging children and their families to donate non-perishable food items to our big CARING BOX.

The BIG box will be presented to the Salvation Army on parade 7 December, which they will distribute to very needy families who have very little with which to celebrate the Holiday/Christmas season.

As I’m sure you do in your home, we are emphasising in our YCDI lessons that a part of good character and healthy well-being is being thankful for what we have, and being willing to share some with those who have very little. Like a drink of refreshing cool water on a hot day, your donations will bring a refreshing ray of hope into the lives of our community; that somebody cares for them!

Each classroom has a smaller Caring Box, where the students can place their donations, and these will be regularly transferred to the Big Caring Box in the office. Your donations can also be placed directly in the office Caring Box.

These sorts of donations are ideal:

  • Tins of vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, etc.
  • Packet cake mixes, crackers, chips, biscuits
  • Special treat items – bags/boxes of treats
