LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

2018 Yearbook

Our 2018 Yearbooks are still available at our school office for only $15. Don’t miss your chance to get a copy of this book full of memories of 2018.

2019 SRS

The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is designed solely to benefit students and parents by substantially reducing the financial burden of purchasing resources. It is a non-profit scheme that provides each participant with online subscriptions, resources and materials. Our scheme is fully endorsed by the Jones Hill School Parents and Citizens Association. Most parents elect to join due to the convenience and reduced financial commitment.

To participate in the scheme please return the included Student Resource Scheme Participation Agreement Form ASAP and make payment in full by Friday 7 December to go into the draw for the Lowes $100 voucher or pay by instalments listed below.

For those parents who do not wish to join the program, a non-participation fee of $40 will be charged and you will be required to purchase a full stationery list. Parents will also need to pay for extra learning activity consumables such as cooking and computer programs, such as Reading Eggs and books that only the school can provide such as the Pat-R reading booklets. Due to the changes on the list, this year it is important that only the items on the list are purchased. Teachers have planned their stationery around the SRS and it is disruptive to the students when they do not have the same items as the rest of the class.

YOU CAN DO IT

SCHOOL-WIDE CARING BOX APPEAL

“You Can Do It” is involving the whole school in encouraging children and their families to donate non-perishable food items to our big CARING BOX.

The BIG box will be presented to the Salvation Army on parade 7 December, which they will distribute to very needy families who have very little with which to celebrate the Holiday/Christmas season.

As I’m sure you do in your home, we are emphasising in our YCDI lessons that a part of good character and healthy well-being is being thankful for what we have, and being willing to share some with those who have very little. Like a drink of refreshing cool water on a hot day, your donations will bring a refreshing ray of hope into the lives of our community; that somebody cares for them!

Each classroom has a smaller Caring Box, where the students can place their donations, and these will be regularly transferred to the Big Caring Box in the office. Your donations can also be placed directly in the office Caring Box.

These sorts of donations are ideal:

  • Tins of vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, etc.
  • Packet cake mixes, crackers, chips, biscuits
  • Special treat items – bags/boxes of treats

TUCKSHOP NEWS

Congratulations our new Tuckshop Convenor, Codie Hughes. Please welcome her the next time you visit the Gum Tree Café.

We at the Gumtree Cafe would like to say a big thank you for all the wonderful words and messages we received on Friday for National Tuckshop Day! Without the support of our families and the amazing volunteers we wouldn’t be able to run our wonderful Tuckshop, so again thank you!

We were also greeted with the beautiful poster hand made by the very creative class of 1/2B! We love it so much that we are having it laminated to be hung permanently for everyone to see!

The last few days are certainly giving us a taste of what summer may bring, don’t forget to keep hydrated. We are open before school and first break for kids to come up and grab a cold refreshment. We also sell a range of ice blocks on Friday afternoon from 3pm.

Please click on the link below for our new ‘Summer Tuckshop Menu’.

POLLEYS

Gympie District Chaplaincy Committee

Our Chaplaincy committee are looking for willing participants to join a newly reinvigorated group to help raise funds to support our merry band of Chaplains who support students and families throughout our community.

The School Chaplaincy services we currently have in place in our community cost an additional $140,000 per year on top of the current federally funded positions. Whilst we have many regular and committed donors carrying the load to provide funds required. The focus of each year's fundraising is to communicate well with existing donors and bridge the gap of approximately $30,000.

Our chaplains, give time, food or assistance to children in need every day and let them know that someone cares about their needs and well-being! Essentially, School Chaplains are in the prevention and support business; helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness, to drug abuse, depression and anxiety. They provide a listening ear and a caring presence for children in crisis, and those who just need a friend. They also provide support for staff and parents in our school community.
