LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

Brainchild Foundation

The Jones Hill school community showed their support on Friday by wearing blue, purchasing ice blocks and giving gold coin donations for the Brainchild Foundation. Congratulations to Amber, one of our year 6 leaders who organised this event. The Brainchild Foundation is an organisation that has been very important to Amber and her family.

At the age of 18 months, Amber was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was given 2 days to live. After the operation to remove the tumor, doctors told Amber’s mother she may never walk or talk again. She showed her determination by walking again in just 2 months!

Amber, Hayley and Kenzie helped staff on Friday selling ice blocks and collecting money. The support of our school community raised $570.50 for the Brainchild Foundation! Thank you to everyone for supporting Amber and making this fundraiser such a success!

Prep Transition for 2019

We welcomed our Preps for 2019 last Wednesday as they participated in more transition activities. They enjoyed a music lesson with Mrs Falk, a PE lesson with Mr Littler, a story in the library with Mrs Walters and were very excited to watch the Rocket Club, led by Mr Hammann, successfully launched three rockets. One of the preps was heard to say, “That was cool! It would have gone over the moon!”

The 2019 Preps will join us again on November 29 as they spend the morning in the Prep classrooms with the teachers.

Music Soiree

Our very talented music students performed at the Twilight Concert last Thursday evening. Mr Berry, Ms Smith and Mrs Falk were very proud of the students. The audience enjoyed performances from the Band, Strings, Choir, Marimba group and Djembe group. The children have spent many hours practising and this showed in the fantastic performances they gave on the night.

3/4P Poets

Last week Mrs Seed had the opportunity to visit 3/4P and listen to the poems they have been writing. Mr Powell has been so impressed with the quality of the work the students have been producing. The poems were so amazing, that we would like to share some of them with all of our readers. Please check out three of the poems, ‘The Spooky Night’, ‘The Clown’ and ‘The Ocean Calls’ at the end of this newsletter.

School Christmas Concert

Our Annual Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 12 at 6pm in the School Hall. All grades and staff are involved performing a variety of Christmas tunes. The P&C will be holding a Sausage Sizzle before the concert. We hope you can all join us for this end of year celebration.

2018 Yearbook

Our 2018 Yearbooks are still available at our school office for only $15. Don’t miss your chance to get a copy of this book full of memories of 2018.

2019 SRS

The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is designed solely to benefit students and parents by substantially reducing the financial burden of purchasing resources. It is a non-profit scheme that provides each participant with online subscriptions, resources and materials. Our scheme is fully endorsed by the Jones Hill School Parents and Citizens Association. Most parents elect to join due to the convenience and reduced financial commitment.

To participate in the scheme please return the included Student Resource Scheme Participation Agreement Form ASAP and make payment in full by Friday 7 December to go into the draw for the Lowes $100 voucher or pay by instalments listed below.

For those parents who do not wish to join the program, a non-participation fee of $40 will be charged and you will be required to purchase a full stationery list. Parents will also need to pay for extra learning activity consumables such as cooking and computer programs, such as Reading Eggs and books that only the school can provide such as the Pat-R reading booklets. Due to the changes on the list, this year it is important that only the items on the list are purchased. Teachers have planned their stationery around the SRS and it is disruptive to the students when they do not have the same items as the rest of the class.

LOST PROPERTY

We have a large number of un-named items, particularly jumpers in our lost property box. These will be displayed at parade this Friday. Please check to see if any items belong to your child. All items left after parade will be donated to charity.

Kind Regards,
James Watt and Stacey Seed

YOU CAN DO IT

SCHOOL-WIDE CARING BOX APPEAL

“You Can Do It” is involving the whole school in encouraging children and their families to donate non-perishable food items to our big CARING BOX.

The BIG box will be presented to the Salvation Army on parade 7 December, which they will distribute to very needy families who have very little with which to celebrate the Holiday/Christmas season.

As I’m sure you do in your home, we are emphasising in our YCDI lessons that a part of good character and healthy well-being is being thankful for what we have, and being willing to share some with those who have very little. Like a drink of refreshing cool water on a hot day, your donations will bring a refreshing ray of hope into the lives of our community; that somebody cares for them!

Each classroom has a smaller Caring Box, where the students can place their donations, and these will be regularly transferred to the Big Caring Box in the office. Your donations can also be placed directly in the office Caring Box.

These sorts of donations are ideal:

  • Tins of vegetables, fruit, spaghetti, etc.
  • Packet cake mixes, crackers, chips, biscuits
  • Special treat items – bags/boxes of treats

POEMS

The Spooky Night by Abbey

Creep, creep is all I hear,
Squeaking noise makes a tear,
There’s someone there I know it’s true,
I’m crying now and turning blue.

The lights are off its really dark,
In the gloom I hear a bark,
I get scared and then I shout,
I’m really scared without a doubt!

Strange shadows cast from the moon,
I wish it was the afternoon,
I want my light on its not fair,
I should cuddle my fluffy bear.

Mum and dad are still asleep,
But I jump out of my bed with a leap,
I race into their bedroom,
Then downstairs I hear a BOOM!

The Clown by Charlotte

Honk honk goes his red nose,
Water squirts out of his nose,
Twists a balloon and creates a cat,
He’s now trying to make a rat.

Oh no! He’s coming for me,
All I want to do is flee,
He’s getting closer and quite mad,
Now I am feeling frightened and sad.

He really like to joke,
Well…who’s he going to poke?
I just saw someone all bare,
We are at a great fun fair.

I think that it’s May,
The clown is dark grey.
Great idea for home,
Filling the bath with foam.

The Ocean Calls by Ella

Ocean, Ocean as I call,
One step two step then I fall,
Pink and yellow in the sky,
Feels like I could really fly.

In the night I watch the moon,
I eat food in the afternoon,
One step two step then I fall,
Ocean, Ocean as I call.

Bubbling water shining bright,
As I watch it in the night,
I wake up with all the fish,
Making them one big, big dish.

Ocean, Ocean as I call,
One step two step then I fall,
I know you will have some fun,
Underneath the yellow sun.
