LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back to the start of the 2019 school year. We hope you have had a wonderful and restful break.
A special welcome to the new families joining Jones Hill this year, we are sure you will have a great transition into our community.
We would also like to welcome our new staff:
Prep – Mrs Sue Curran
1/2 – Mrs Natasha Hooklyn
Yr2 – Miss Elkee Whitaker
Yr3 – Miss Kelly Rozynski
Yr 4 – Miss Sarah Middleton, sharing with Mrs
Fiona Newcombe
SWD – Mr Simon Usher, joining Mrs Julie
Jones
Guidance – Mr Adam Burke
This year we will also host the Student Engagement Teachers (Behaviour Management), Mr Bruce Mouland, Miss Emma Green and Mrs Rachael Alexander.
Our teachers returned last week for the full week to ensure all preparations are in place for a successful year of learning. They have taken part in LEM refreshers and worked through our school curriculum programs.
We would like to congratulate our students for the way they have settled back into school this week. As parents you should be very proud of the way they have gone about the day.
This year Jones Hill remains committed to our four improvement areas:
- Writing & Reading
- Numeracy
- Teaching Quality, Explicit Teaching Model
- Increase students in U2Bs
Our attendance target remains 95%, giving students the best opportunity to achieve their potential.
The first general P&C meeting for 2019 is February 12 at 6.30pm in the library. All are welcome to attend and join this hard working band of parents.
Our first LEM Parent session for the year is 20 February at 5.00pm in the library. This is session 1, single phonograms. We will be providing a pack of resources for parents who are able to attend.
Nut Aware School – Just a reminder that we have several students within the school who have mild to severe allergies to nuts. Please limit sending any nut products with your child and help us keep our students safe.
This is an important time of year to be road aware. We have a lot of students entering and exiting the school each day. Please be on the look out for students crossing the roads and making their way to and from school. Please ensure you use the designated parking areas and have a plan with your children for pick up.
Container Exchange Program
As part of our Environmental Program we are participating in the Containers Exchange Program.
All students are encouraged to bring empty cans and plastic bottles to school (no glass). All containers to the office please.
These containers will be sorted and taken to the Containers Exchange Depot. The P&C will receive 10c per container and these funds will be used to buy resources for the school.
Every student will also receive two Zero Waste tokens when they bring in their containers. They will go into a draw at the end of each term with some great prizes. This is a great way to be a Wildlife Warrior, reduce the waste in the Environment, help save our planet and support the school.
SWIMMING
Swimming lessons for P/1R (only yr 1 students), 1S, 1B, 1/2H, 2S, 2W, 3R & 3MD start on Monday, February 4. Lessons will be held at Gympie South Pool and will run from week 2 to week 9. Swimming invoices, permission and medical forms were sent home on January 29. Payment is due by Friday, February 8. Permission forms and medical forms must be completed and returned by this Friday, February 1. Students will not be permitted to attend lessons if forms are not returned. All payments i.e. SRS will also need to be up to date before students can participate in swimming.
PARADE
Our School Parades for Preps to year 6 are held every Friday at 9am in the School Hall. Our first parade will be held this Friday. Everyone welcome.
CARE PACKAGES FOR THE TROOPS
Last year we sent care packages to our troops overseas. We received this lovely reply.
CANBERRA TRIP
From 21.06.2020 to 26.06.2020 Jones Hill School is planning a school excursion to Canberra. This excursion will be available to the students who are currently in year 4 and year 5. This excursion was first run in 2016 and was very successful with students coming away full of amazing memories and life-long impressions of Australia’s past and present. The itinerary for the trip has not been finalised yet but will follow closely to last year’s visit. This trip is highly educational as well as a lot of fun. The students will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of Australia’s origins, political history and layers of government with visits to Parliament House, the War Memorial and the Royal Australian Mint. There will also be a chance to visit the National Gallery of Australia, the National Zoo and Aquarium, Questacon, enjoy a trip to the snow fields and the Sydney Opera House just to name a few.
Due to new regulations in booking accommodation for the Canberra Trip 2020, we require an approximate number of students from the current year 4 and 5 classes to let us know if your student would like to attend this amazing trip. Expressions of Interest Notes will be sent home today and are attached to this newsletter. It is very important that the note is return by Friday 1 February (this week).
Kind Regards,
James Watt and Stacey Seed
