LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
|
|
Hi Everyone,
We are half way through term 1 and we have been very busy at Jones Hill State School. Below are some the events that have been taking place.
North Queensland/Townsville Flood Appeal
Last Friday students at Jones Hill State School and the Gympie surrounding primary schools all participated in a free dress day to raise much needed funds for people devastated by the North Queensland floods. Jones Hill State School raised $718.00 but as a whole we have raised a whopping $5737.65 across the Gympie Schools! We are very proud of the way our families have supported this cause and helped others less fortunate than themselves. These funds will go directly to those affected by the floods.
Leadership Ceremony
On Friday we had the Leadership Ceremony at parade. Our School Captains, House Captains and Leadership Team received their badges, which were pinned on by some very proud parents. We would like to congratulate these year 6 students who will be wonderful ambassadors for our school. We will continue to support and encourage them as they take on their leadership responsibilities throughout the year.

Sports Day
The Jones Hill SS Sports Day is on Friday 5th April and is fast approaching. We have started the Field Event Trials and Sprint Run Offs.
The children have enjoyed competing and have been great sports, showing their appreciation for other competitors. Your child will need to wear their house shirt on Sports Day and on Wednesday 3rd April, which is the long distance running events. Let’s go – DORAN (Yellow), RADFORD (Red) and McPAUL (Blue)!
Zero Waste Lunch boxes
Every Tuesday we have Zero Waste Lunch Boxes at school. Children are encouraged to have no waste on this day. Students with zero waste will receive a token, which goes into the end of term draw for environmentally friendly prizes. Let’s do our part to help reduce the amount of waste going into landfill and into our waterways. Come on Wildlife Warriors! Let’s help save our planet!
Clean Up Australia Day
Clean Up Australia Day is this Friday, 1st March. The children will be involved in this event and will have an area of the school to tidy up. Australia is a very beautiful land and we are lucky to live in such a clean country. Thank you to everyone for your efforts to help keep our school, community and country clean!
Container Exchange Program
As part of our Environmental Program we are participating in the Containers Exchange Program.
All students are encouraged to bring empty cans and plastic bottles to school (no glass). All containers to the office please.
These containers will be sorted and taken to the Containers Exchange Depot. The P&C will receive 10c per container and these funds will be used to buy resources for the school.
Every student will also receive two Zero Waste tokens when they bring in their containers. They will go into a draw at the end of each term with some great prizes. This is a great way to be a Wildlife Warrior, reduce the waste in the Environment, help save our planet and support the school.
School Crossing Guard
It has been noticed by our crossing guards that parents and students have not been using the school crossing at the front gate to safely cross the road. When driving around schools, motorists need to be aware of children’s crossing locations. When the orange Children Crossing flags are displayed, the crossing is in operation, and all students and adults must use the school’s crosswalk to walk safely across the road, when prompted by the school crossing guard. Please remember road safety when dropping and picking up your children from school.
Kind Regards,
James Watt - Principal

SWPBS NEWS
At Jones Hill State School one of the expected behaviours is using the toilets appropriately. We are learning to:
- Use toilets correctly
- Go straight to the toilet and straight out
- Wait patiently for others
- Tell an adult about a problem
- Go at the break time
- Respect school property
- Be private
- Let others be private
Another of our behaviour expectations that we have been demonstrating is transitioning quickly and quietly. All students are expected to transition appropriately when moving between classrooms, outdoor learning environments and eating areas. Year One students are trying very hard to follow these two important rules.

INTRODUCING 2W!
Welcome back to Jones Hill State School. I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe break. My name is Elkee Whitaker and I will be teaching in 2W. I have recently relocated back to the Sunshine Coast after working 12 months in the Wet Topics of Queensland, Cairns as a Student with Disabilities Teacher. As much as I enjoyed the crocodiles when fishing and the cassowaries when hiking, I am very excited to have safely returned and I look forward to what this exciting year has to offer!

CHAPPY NEWS
Hi all. I hope that you are having a wonderful time back at school and are learning lots of new things. During this week I came across an article written about a Queensland woman, Trish Jackson, who lives her life with a severe disability. Trish was born with no arms, three short fingers and multiple heart complications which changed the outcome of her life significantly. She couldn’t do the things her friends could do and had to learn how to use her legs like we would our arms. However she says that the biggest issue she has had to overcome is the way that society views her. She’s seen as different, odd and has faced bullying and stares when just walking down the street.
Trish hasn’t let that stop her, she learnt to paint with her feet, take photos and is now an artist in her own right. She goes around to schools and community groups talking about her story and how she has overcome bullying. She wants people to know that it’s ok to be different and the importance of being nice to everyone we meet, even if it is just in passing. Her story reminded me that it’s ok to be me, and that anything I want to achieve I can do. This is such an important message for our students to hear, and we also need to remember to be nice to everyone. The link below is to an ABC story about Trish Jackson, her art and the message she brings to school all across Queensland. I would encourage you, if you have time, to watch this clip and hear for yourself the amazing story of Trish Jackson.
I hope to see you around the school this term.

NEW CAMP AUSTRALIA CO-ORDINATOR
G'day!! My name is Jules and I'm your new Outside School Hours Care Co-Ordinator at Jones Hill School. I do this service for you through a company called CAMP Australia and I have literally set up camp in your beautiful big hall! You will find me there between the hours of 6:30am-9:00am and 2:30pm-6:00pm every week day. You will also see me out and about the school grounds and dropping off/picking up the little Preppies!!
I would love for myself and CAMP Australia to become your 'one stop shop' for before and after school care needs, and with this in mind, please feel free to come and have a chat with me and talk about your children, your care needs and just tell me about yourself. I would love to meet you.
As the Co-Ordinator I create child centred fun and educational programs and yes there is lots and lots of input from the children, with child initiated and spontaneous activities plus extensions on things I have observed them doing to extend their imaginations, interests and skills. In fact at the beginning of each term, each child writes a profile for me that tells me all about them, which is awesome for helping us to build our relationships.
If you would like to register your child for before or after school care, or both, then visit our website at the link below and press on REGISTRATION and follow the prompts. It’s so easy to do! We offer full flexibility.... you can make permanent bookings, come as many times or as little as you like and you can make bookings on the day or cancel a booking with 24 hours notice. There are also different fees for different bookings and great discounts to be had..... Please feel free to come see me and I can give you fee information or it’s on our Website too.
