Principal's Report
Hi Everyone,
I hope your break was as enjoyable as ours! We spent the time in Canberra visiting the War Memorial, Parliament House and Questacon. Then it was up to the snow at Selwyn Snowfields. It was my girls first time in the snow. They had a great time on the toboggans, skiing and snowboarding. Our efforts at building Olaf the Snowman were thwarted by the 2 year old who found it more fun to jump on the snowman!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new families and students to the Jones Hill community. This term we welcomed 14 new students.
This term has started with some great events already. Year 3 have just returned from camp at Barambah. Mrs Grogan and I went to visit them on camp and arrived just in time for the bush walk. Well done to our year 3 students and teachers, who spent a lot of time and effort making sure the organisation was right and ran smoothly. I would like to particularly thank the parents who attended the camp, giving up their time to support the students during this great experience.
Our year 5 students attended the Sunshine Coast University Campus in Gympie to examine the types of tertiary careers available to students in Gympie. What a great asset to our community this facility will be.
On Friday we celebrated National Tree Day. Well done to Miss Nelmes who coordinated the event. The morning was well attended by our enthusiastic parents, planting trees alongside the students. Thank you to Planet Ark and Toyota who sponsored the day. Trees were courtesy of Landcare. The new planting took place in the vegetable gardens, in the year 1 gardens and outside the staffroom on the bank.
Over the weekend Mr Walters and Miss Nelmes attended High Ropes training at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre. They are working on gaining their qualifications to facilitate our students using the High Ropes Course at Gympie East School.
Regards,
James Watt

Winter Trees on the Mary
Trees do not usually dress up but that all changed last Wednesday when Mary Street trees took on a life of their own! Trees were decorated by local community groups and businesses and all looked fantastic. Jones Hill SS had their very own Koala Tree with two very cute and cuddly koalas. Thank you to Mrs Burnett, Mrs Van Doran and the year 4/5 girls who were responsible for decorating the tree that represented our school.
Year 3 Camp
Year 3 camp was a wonderful success and enjoyed by all who attended. Mr Watt and I had the privilege of visiting the camp on the first day. The children were very excited to see us and we shared a long bush walk that I was definitely not prepared for! Thanks to Mrs Blake and Miss Greaves for all their effort in making this such a great camp that the children learn so much from and enjoy so greatly. Thank you also to the parents who volunteered their time to assist.
Teddy Bear Picnic
The teddy bear picnic was a fantastic morning of fun enjoyed by students, teachers and all our special visitors. The children and their teddy bears had a wonderful time having their faces painted, decorating biscuit and creating craft masterpieces, followed by a delicious morning tea. The morning was hugely successful as the photos in our photo gallery show and I'm sure that the children slept well that night.
Keep an eye out for this wonderful day on our calendar for next year.
Kind Regards,
Helen Grogan
Deputy Principal

Chappy News
Welcome back! What a term we had last term and then dance parties and pancake breakfasts to finish the term off in a great way.
This week I would like to talk about the value of Attentiveness. Attentiveness is concentrating on the person or task before you. It is a value that is hard in this fast paced world with phones, social media and television all demanding our time when we could be spending quality time with those around us. Attentiveness in the classroom is listening when people speak, sitting up straight, not getting distracted by others and getting work done. I know myself with the busyness of this world I sometimes struggle to give those around me the attention and respect they deserve because I am concentrating on my phone or social media. Wouldn't it be nice for just one night to be able to truly be attentive and to also have someone else's full attention. Just something to ponder over the next few days.
If you would like to help out with breakfast club, we would love to see you. Breakfast club is Thursday mornings 8:15- 8:45am. It is a great way to meet the students and to be a part of the school community.
Looking forward to seeing you around the school,
Have a great week!
Chappy Caitlin

Jump Rope for Heart
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Our school is participating in the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program and we would love your support!
Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart is an exciting and non-competitive program which encourages children to become more active through skipping, learning new skills and raising vital funds for heart research and community health programs.
Skipping is an excellent way for children to keep fit and healthy. Over the next few weeks, your child(ren) will be learning a range of fun skipping skills and new tricks. We will emphasise the importance of regular physical activity and the importance of healthy eating for a healthy lifestyle.
Jump Rope for Heart is also a great way to encourage children to get involved in our community and support Australia's leading heart health charity, the Heart Foundation. The Jump Rope team provides us with lots of resources and support to implement the program and in return we ask that students help by seeking sponsorship for their involvement.
Sponsorship is easy – simply go online to www.heartfoundation.org.au/jumprope, click on the green 'Kids Join Now' button, and register your child today!
- A secure fundraising page will be created as soon as you register; all you need to do then is click the 'Email Sponsors' link to send your family and friends an email asking them for their support… It's that easy!
- This is an easy, safe way for your child to monitor their progress, receive bonus prizes and even receive sponsorship from family and friends who are further afield.
At the end of the program we will be holding a Jump Off, an event to celebrate and culminate the Heart Foundation Jump Rope for Heart program. This will be held on August 19, 2015. The Jump Off day is a great opportunity for you to witness how much fun skipping can be, come along and pick up a rope!
Let your teacher know when your child(ren) has finished fundraising online. You may like to print out a copy of the donations received online.
Thank you for joining us in the fight against heart disease.
Yours sincerely,
Phil McEnery
Jones Hill State School Jump Rope for Heart School Coordinator
