Term 4
Term 4 is the final term of the year and is traditionally always a busy one, culminating with our Awards Night. The term calendar has the important dates included in it and is available in this newsletter.
School Crossing Guard
On Tuesday 6 October, Jackie Taylor and Peter Paisley began their official duties as Jones Hill Schools Crossing Guards. Crossing guards protect children on their way to and from school ensuring the children make it safely across busy roads. This is why it is extremely important that we educate our children to use the safe crossing provided by the crossing guard. Please talk to your children about crossing the road safely with the crossing guard and I urge parents to model their behaviour by also using the crossing provided. It is very dangerous for you or your children to be crossing the road from in between parked cars where visibility of oncoming traffic is poor. All pedestrians are to cross the road where the crossing guards have a clear view of traffic in every direction and the ability to stop the traffic to allow safe passage across our busy road.
In the future we will also be receiving blister curbing and flashing warning lights which will further enhance the safety of our children and all pedestrians.
School Review
The results for the school review that took place in August are now available on our website at https://jonehillss.eq.edu.au If you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to contact me.
School Canberra Trip
Last week we sent home expressions of interest to parents of students in year 4 and 5 to attend a school excursion to Canberra in July 2016. Why visit Canberra? For many young Australians, the only time they will ever visit their National Capital is when they participate in an excursion to Canberra with their school.
By visiting Canberra, students develop a deeper understanding of how we're governed and of our Australian Identity, fostering a sense of national pride. They will also participate in visiting a range of other national cultural institutions and attractions which provide educational programs that will immerse students in hands on learning in the areas of civics and citizenship, science, history, geography, culture and art. These activities enhance learning as well as the social development of our students.
The excursion is open to students in these grade levels only. Expressions of Interest are due back Friday 23rd October. We will not be able to take any after this date as bookings have to be made at that time.
It is hoped to run this excursion biannually so that all students can participate.
Spring Festival
I would like to thank the staff and students for the amazing effort they put into our Spring Festival, with a very special thanks to Helen Grogan for her efforts in making the day possible. The day ran very smooth, even though it threatened rain from time to time. It was great to have so many parents and family members participate in the day.
Having zinc radio broadcast their morning breakfast show from our school not only proved to be great fun for everyone but it also raised awareness of our school in the general community.
Students participated enthusiastically in many hands on activities throughout the day including craft, eco gardening, exploring displays and much more. All students showed great curiosity and interest in the animal displays experiencing up close encounters with many baby animals, alpacas and sheep with working dogs.
Thank you to the many parents who have sent messages commending the day and showing their support. These messages have been passed on to our appreciative staff.
Regards,
James Watt

Deputy Principal's Report
Hello everybody and a warm welcome to our new families.
Spring Festival
First of all, please let me thank all of those who were involved in making our Spring Festival Day such an enormous success. I cannot express in words how appreciative I am of all the hard work that went into making the day by our wonderful dedicated staff and students. It was an amazing accomplishment and it was immensely enjoyed by our students and visitors.
I would like to thank all the sponsors who made this day possible; Stirling Homes and Cooloola Milk (our major sponsors) and Jones Hill Store, John Madill Toyota, Gympie Family Dental and Bendigo Bank (our minor sponsors).
Also a huge thank you to the local businesses and community members that came along to spend the day with us. Your presence provided an opportunity for our students and visitors to learn more about your organisations but also many provided a hands on experience that would not be possible without your participation.
Highlights of the day included:
- Working Dogs;
- Building of the dog house;
- The beautiful horse head created by our chainsaw sculptor Keith Gall;
- The amazing array of animals and attractions, especially the fresh food bar supplied by Coles;
- The support from the local community with sponsorship and attractions;
- The great participation and respectful behaviour of our students, it was outstanding!;
- And the great support from parents and family members!
Sportsperson of the Year Nominees – 2015
We would like to congratulate Brayden Lindsay and Myles Drescher for being nominated as sportsperson of the year 2015. Jones Hill School community is very proud of you for your outstanding achievements. Clinton Seed, Rykah Wallace-Burr and Thomas Barton who are past students of Jones Hill School have also been nominated for this award. Good luck to you all.

A big thank you to Judy Whittaker who volunteers a huge amount of enthusiasm, energy and time to sell, sell, sell!! I think she missed her calling, and we appreciate her efforts immensely.
Finally, a big thank you and congratulations to our Jones Hill students for demonstrating patience, honesty and manners when purchasing Book Fair items. Well done everyone.

There will be one final Book Club for this year (Issue 8).
This is maybe an opportunity to look for some Christmas presents and stocking fillers!

Friday, 30th October - Students are invited to show their support for the day by wearing a red t shirt instead of their green shirt and making a gold coin donation (please note this is NOT FREE DRESS - just a RED top!). The Year 5 students will be visiting the lower grades to teach their peers the basics in keeping safe and empowering them to 'Recognise, React and Report' if they feel something is not right.
