LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

School Review

This week saw the completion of our full school review. On Monday afternoon the reviewers presented their findings and recommendations for the next four years. The review team have given our parents, staff and students a glowing review. I was so proud of our community when the review findings were presented. Jones Hill SS had exceptional results in Explicit Improvement Agenda, a culture that promotes learning, analysis and discussion of data and an expert teaching team. An outstanding result for our school.

Thank you to all the parents who took the time to have a chat with the review team members as they walked around the school.

We now have a clear direction to continue the excellent work that we have been doing for the last four years.

Art Show

Last Monday afternoon we had the Jones Hill SS Art Show in the hall. The students displayed their creative talents through their art displays. I enjoyed viewing these masterpieces and the way the students were able to express their talents.

Prep Enrolments for 2020

If you have a child attending Prep in 2020 and would like them to attend our school, please contact our school administration staff. This may be done by phoning us on 54890555, calling into the office or via email on admin@jonehillss.eq.edu.au. Our staff can answer all of your questions and are happy to help. We do accept out-of-catchment enrolments and last year all of our out-of-catchment students were able to attend Jones Hill State School. By adding your child to our current waiting list you will receive information regarding our Prep Transition Programs and information sessions.

Our next Prep Transition Morning is the 13th of November, 9:00am to 10:30am. The children will have a PE, Music and Library activity. A great way for your child to meet our teachers and become familiar with Jones Hill School.

High School Enrolments

If you have a year 6 student transitioning to high school next year, please ensure you have completed their enrolment forms and have booked an enrolment meeting. Students cannot attend the transition day without being enrolled. The year 7 orientation day for James Nash and Gympie High is 2 December.

Year 6 Graduation

Year 6 Graduation will take place on the evening of 9 December and will now be starting at 5.30pm. The school holds a small and respectful ceremony for students as part of the completion of primary schooling and transition to high school. This evening is for year 6 students and their family. More information will be coming home to year 6 students, in the coming weeks.

Kind Regards,

James Watt - Principal

UPDATE FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER

Student Resource Scheme

Jones Hill School has developed a SRS for classroom stationery lists, classroom consumables, IT applications and consumables, reproduced class workbooks and worksheets and classroom learning experiences. For more information regarding the SRS, please visit our website below.

https://jonehillss.eq.edu.au/

If you have previously opted in to the SRS your participation is assumed for the remainder of your child's enrolment, unless you inform the school otherwise by completing a new participation agreement form. If you are a new parent to the school, this information will assist you in making a decision as to whether you wish to participate in the SRS.

What is provided by the Queensland Government?

The Queensland Government supports children’s education by providing funding for instruction (teachers), facilities (school grounds and buildings, internet), and administration (staff to run the school). Funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use and many items used by the student in the classroom.

The SRS helps parents to source these resources. The school can purchase resources at lower rates due to its bulk buying power. Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a period of time are hired to students to further reduce costs for families. Participating in the SRS also offers a convenient way for parents to source the items that their child needs for school and ensures that all students have access to the same standard of resources.

Student Resource Scheme participation forms have been sent home. Please fill in and return a form for each child, after this form is filled in it will be understood that your child will remain in the SRS until your child leaves the school or you inform us otherwise.

Prep Excursion to Gympie Regional Art Gallery

Cost for the bus is $2.50 and invoices have been emailed or sent home and permission forms have been handed out. Please return the permission slips to your teacher by Monday 25 November.

If the items are not returned and invoices are not paid, then your child may not be able to participate in the end of year activities. Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding lost resources.

Overdue Payments

Student Absence

Each parent of a child who is of compulsory school age has the legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attends a state school or a non-state school, on every school day for the educational program in which the child is enrolled, unless the parent has a reasonable excuse. The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department. Parents need to know if their child hasn't turned up for school, and schools need to know when and why a child is absent. Parents are required to contact the school on, or prior, to a student being absent. Absences may be reported by phone, written note or by using the QParent App. State schools will be required to notify parents on the same day that any student is absent from school without explanation. The school will send out daily SMS text messages to notify parents that their child is absent and allows a reply service for you to explain the absence. Currently there are students who are on our system with unexplained absences. You will receive a letter this week regarding these absences. Please return the letter to the office with a brief explanation of what the absence was for.

LEMs

Phonics Focus: Which sounds should students learn?

Multiple Phonograms

Sometimes two or more letters are grouped together to represent a single sound. Multiple phonograms contain more than one letter to make one sound. As with single phonograms, a multiple phonogram may be able to say several different sounds.

What you can do at home:

Underline the multiple phonograms in the following words and read the words

MEET THE STAFF

Rebecca Adamson – Teacher Aide

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I’m a Prep Teacher Aide. My family and I are new to Gympie having only moved here from Sarina (Central Queensland) in December 2017. I have two sons, one in grade 4 here at Jones Hill State School and one in grade 8 at James Nash. We are a camping family and love going away and exploring new places.

Jones Hill is a wonderful school to work at and I look forward to meeting more families as they transition through Prep.

MUSIC COUNT US IN 2019!

The Music Count Us In program brings awareness of the importance and value of music in our school and wider community. The culminating event is our whole school performance of the song “We Are” on Thursday 7th November at 12:30pm in the hall. Parents and carers are welcome to come along to see our whole school singing and moving to this fantastic song, we are very excited to be finally performing after many weeks of rehearsing.

RELAY FOR LIFE

On Saturday, October 26, seventeen of our students participated in the Gympie Relay for Life. The students had a great day and were fabulous ambassadors for our school. During the day we ran two on-site fundraising events. Mr Usher was a very, very busy man all afternoon creating amazing balloon art. His hard work and our lucky superhero chocolate throw helped to add an extra $450 to our fundraising. Our final total was $5722.

Our team was lucky enough to win the award for Best Banner with our oversized Superman.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to this event and to our fundraising. I have truly been overwhelmed by your support.

Kind regard,
Jennifer Hurren

CONTAINERS PLEASE

All plastic bottles, aluminium cans, tetra packs can be dropped off to the office. Glass bottles can be brought in by adults only. The Jones Hill SS community is doing their part to reduce landfill and keep our waterways clean. Thank you to all of our families and students for supporting this very worthy cause.
