Our dedicated teachers and teacher aides have worked alongside the children, so they can reach their full potential and achieve success.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement strict hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures will be followed at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- water bottles for personal use

Meet Our OSHC Coordinator
Hi my name is Marnie Pearson and I am excited about the joining the Jones Hill Community. You may have seen me around the school as I have been assisting in classrooms this term, but please come and say hello next term at the OSHC service. I have previously coordinated an OSHC service in Bundaberg for 9 years and I completed a degree in Social Science Social Welfare and worked with children and families for many years. I grew up in Gympie and have been home for the last six years and I am looking forward to meeting and working with the families of the community of Jones Hill State School.
Student Resource Scheme
Jones Hill School has developed a SRS for classroom stationery lists, classroom consumables, IT applications and consumables, reproduced class workbooks and worksheets and classroom learning experiences. For more information regarding the SRS, please visit our website
https://jonehillss.eq.edu.au/
If you have previously opted in to the SRS your participation is assumed for the remainder of your child's enrolment, unless you inform the school otherwise by completing a new participation agreement form. If you are a new parent to the school, this information will assist you in making a decision as to whether you wish to participate in the SRS.
What is provided by the Queensland Government?
The Queensland Government supports children’s education by providing funding for instruction (teachers), facilities (school grounds and buildings, internet), and administration (staff to run the school). Funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use and many items used by the student in the classroom.
The SRS helps parents to source these resources. The school can purchase resources at lower rates due to its bulk buying power. Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a period of time are hired to students to further reduce costs for families. Participating in the SRS also offers a convenient way for parents to source the items that their child needs for school and ensures that all students have access to the same standard of resources.
Student Resource Scheme participation forms are being sent home today. Please fill in and return a form for each child, after this form is filled in it will be understood that your child will remain in the SRS until your child leaves the school or you inform us otherwise.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club will be held every Thursday at 8:30am under the old Administration building.

Join Our Team
For the last eight years Jones Hill School has entered a team in the Gympie Relay for Life event.
This year, Gympie Relay for Life will be joining the state-wide virtual Relay, which will be streamed online on 10 October. This Relay will focus on what makes Relay for Life so special to all those involved and bring Relayers across Queensland together to fight back against cancer.
We know many of our students will still want to be involved by fundraising to help the Cancer Council with research and support those with Cancer and their families.
The school will be holding a mini relay event on Wednesday September 16 from 1pm to 4pm. To register your child for this event click on the link below. Registration is free, however it would be great if all participants could raise at least $20 to donate towards this worthy cause.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Focus has been:
1. Learning- In classrooms and learning settings.
To explore learning in the classroom and in other learning settings, Prep M discussed what learning can look like, sound like and feel like.
Learning can look like:
- “Being ready to listen.”
- “Activities on the carpet with my team.”
- “Sitting at our desks or caring for our garden.”
- “Always having a go.”
- “Trying really hard, even when it’s tricky.”
Learning can sound like:
- “Sometimes quiet and sometimes noisy.”
- “People taking turns.”
- “Helping my friends.”
- “Listening ears ready to listen.”
- “Asking for help when I get stuck.”
Learning can feel like:
- “Having fun!”
- “Hard work.”
- “Great, when I can do something new!”
- “Making mistakes, and that’s ok, because mistakes are part of learning and I have another go.”
- “Exciting, I like to do new things!”

2. School values- Respect, Relationships, Learning and Safety.
To explore our four school values, we used role play to experience and practice how we can use Respect, Relationships, Learning and Safety throughout our day.

MATHS AT JONES HILL STATE SCHOOL
Partitioning Warm-Up
Play the Covers game (on the sheet Covers Game Board) to build student fluency in partitioning single-digit numbers.
This is a game for two or three players. Players share a game board and a 10-sided die. Each player has a different coloured set of counters.
Have students –
- Take turns to roll a 10-sided dice.
- Partition each number rolled.
- Cover these digits on the board, e.g. if 8 is rolled, a player could cover: 4 and 4 OR 6 and 2 OR 1, 5 and 2.
The Player to first cover four digits in a straight line, using only their coloured counters wins the game.
Note: When a 1 is rolled, the player places a counter over a 1 on the board. If a zero is rolled, miss a turn.
Please click on the link below to download a copy of the Covers Game Board.
LEMS NEWS
Phonics Focus: Which sounds should students learn?
Multiple Phonograms
Sometimes two or more letters are grouped together to represent a single sound. Multiple phonograms contain more than one letter to make one sound. As with single phonograms, a multiple phonogram may be able to say several different sounds.
What you can do at home:
Underline the multiple phonograms in the following words and read the words

JAPANESE CORNER
With Sensei
Minna-san konnichwa,
Only 2 more weeks to go until a well-earned holiday. Well done to all of the students for putting in a SENSEI-tional effort, not only in Japanese but all subject areas. Here is this week’s Japanese saying:
Makeru ga kachi
Translation: To lose means to win. (Makeru= to lose, kachi= to win)
This can be very difficult to understand, but its meaning is quite simple: don’t compete over foolish matters.
Sometimes, just staying away from a conflict is much smarter. Walking away from a competition or challenge can be the better decision. Choose your battles wisely.
Have a fantastic week and a great holiday.
Stay Japanesey

NETBALL
I have been coaching the year six children in netball over the last seven weeks. We have three teams – Doran, McPaul and Radford.
These teams are made up of four girls and three boys. The children are thoroughly enjoying the experience and they have learnt many skills.
Two weeks ago, we started a competition between the teams. Doran defeated Radford in the first round and in the second round there was a tie between Radford and McPaul. The third round will take place on Thursday September 10 between Doran and McPaul. The two highest scoring teams will play off in a grand final match on Tuesday September 15. Nat Bates

MEET THE STAFF
My name is Renee Berry and I teach year 2. I was very fortunate to join the Jones Hill family mid-way through last year, teaching year 4. Over the past year, I have met many wonderful people including staff, students and families and I feel so lucky to teach in such a great school.
Before moving to Gympie, I was out West teaching at Barcaldine P-12 State School. It was such a wonderful experience and I was fortunate to meet my husband Tim there. We are both really enjoying living in Gympie and raising our two children in a nice town where we are closer to family.
I am having a lot of fun working with my lovely Year 2 class and cannot believe how fast the year is flying. I am very much looking forward to seeing the students of 2B learn and grow over the rest of the year.
CONTAINERS PLEASE
Keep bringing in your containers for recycling. All plastic bottles, aluminium cans, tetra packs can be dropped off to the office. Glass bottles can be brought in by adults only.
The Jones Hill SS community is doing their part to reduce landfill and keep our waterways clean. Thank you to all of our families and students for supporting this very worthy cause.
THANK YOU
A big thank you to Tracey Devereux who did a fabulous job taking promotional photos for our school. We are very excited and looking forward to seeing the finished product.
