LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Welcome back everyone. We hope you had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday with family and friends and are looking forward to a productive term 4. We would like to welcome our new families and the Prep 2021 students to our school, as they continue the transition activities throughout this term.

Swimming

This term our prep classes will be swimming at Deep Blue Aquatics. Year 3B, 3D, 4/5W, 5CL, 5R, 6C and 6G will be swimming at Gympie South State School pool. The children learn essential water safety and swimming skills in the Learn to Swim program. Swimming starts on Monday 12th October. Please ensure all invoices are paid and permission forms are returned to the office by Friday 9th October.

Sports Day

The Jones Hill Sports Day will be held on Friday 16th October. Unfortunately, due to CO-VID restrictions we are unable to have parents/carers in attendance. However, we will be posting photos on Facebook to share with our families. Sports Day is an opportunity for all children to participate in running and field events, to cheer for their house and to have some fun. All students will wear their house shirt on the day – Doran is yellow, Radford is red and McPaul is blue.

Awards Night

We are currently finalising arrangements for this year’s award presentations. Due to COVID it will be run slightly differently this year with more information in upcoming newsletters.

Award winners will receive a trophy or medallion, gift card and certificate. We are seeking cash sponsorship donations of $30 per award. If you are interested in sponsoring one or more awards please fill in the form (see link below) or see our office staff.

Please click on the link below for a sponsorship form.

Cairns Trip

Our year 5 and 6 students will be heading off on a trip of a lifetime from the 1st – 5th November to Cairns. With the cancellation of the Canberra Trip this year, due to CO-VID restrictions, we have been patiently waiting for our Cairns adventure. This experience is linked to the curriculum as students will learn about the Daintree Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, wildlife and much more. Start organising your suitcase for lots of fun in the sun.

Rewards Day

On Friday 4th of December students will be given the opportunity to celebrate their behaviour results for 2020.

Years 4-6 Gold and Platinum students we be attending a day excursion to Bli Bli Aqua Park.

Years 2-3 Gold students will be attending a day excursion to the Gympie Aquatic Centre.

Years 1-6 Silver students will be attending a half day excursion to the Gympie Aquatic Centre.

Years 1-6 Bronze students will remain at school and participate in fun rotational activities.

Year 1-6 Orange and Red students will remain at school and be involved in building a plan for improved behaviour for 2021.

Invoices, permission, medical forms and information will be sent home in the next two weeks. Those attending Bli Bli Aqua Park must also fill in and return a waiver. Please return payment and all forms before Wednesday 18 November.

Permissions are signed on the understanding that a student’s behaviour level may change during the time period leading up to Rewards Day. A drop or rise in behaviour level will change the Rewards Day activities that your child is eligible to attend.

New Student Free Days

New student free days added to Term 4!

In recognition of the outstanding efforts of school staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two days of the school year, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 December, have been declared student free days. Our school will be closed on these days.

Social Distancing Restrictions

Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.

Hygiene Measures

We will continue to implement strict hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures will be followed at school.

  • regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
  • increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
  • regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
  • water bottles for personal use

Sick Students

It is essential that parents/carers keep children home from school if they are unwell. In accordance with Queensland Health Directives parents or carers of any child showing signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school. If a child is being tested for CO-VID, parents/carers need to inform the school by contacting the office on 54 890555.

Kind Regards,

James Watt - Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

Cairns

Hi All,

The Cairns Trip (November 1 to November 5) is fast approaching. How exciting! There are still a handful of students who have not handed back their Zoom permission forms. Please do so before this Friday 9 October.

We have Covid-19 safe plans for all of our activities and all the venues that we will visit.

It is important that the students wear their school uniform shirt to travel, to and from, the excursion. This means that on the Sunday we leave, students will be dressed in their school shirts and will arrive home in their school shirts. This is a requirement of the airline and it also allows us easy identification of the students.

A list of items to bring was sent home last term with the students and is attached below for your convenience. It is highly recommended that your child wears collared shirts (like polo shirts). Students are not to wear singlets or tank tops with no sleeves. The sun is very harsh in this area of Queensland and sunburn/sun damage will happen extremely fast. Students should also have a long sleeved rash vest or swim suit and if possible, clear face zinc.

Medication is to be dropped into the office on the Friday if possible but all other medication will be handed to the teachers on Sunday morning.

Do not bring cameras, mobile phones, electronic devices, money, lollies, torches or jewellery. Cameras for the students to use will be provided.

A COVID-19 Customer Questionnaire for the airline will be sent home on Thursday 29 October and it is very important that this form is filled out, signed and returned on Friday 30 October for travel on Sunday morning.

The buses will leave the school at 5:45am sharp on Sunday morning 1 November. Students should be at the school no later than 5:30am. This will allow time to pack bags, check for medication and board the bus. It is very important that we leave on time so we do not have to rush through the airport.

Teachers attending the trip will speak with the students over the next couple of weeks to talk about behaviour expectations, sleeping arrangements and most of all, the places we are visiting. Some of these activities will include; Cairns Aquarium, Daintree Forest, Mossman Gorge, Great Barrier Reef, Crocodile Farm, Kuranda Railway and many other activities.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 54890555.

2020 Year Book

Orders for the 2020 yearbook are now being taken. Please send in orders (with money) soon or drop by the office to pay. Yearbooks are still $16 each.

Please click the link below to download a copy of the year book order form.

Student Resource Scheme

Jones Hill School has developed a SRS for classroom stationery lists, classroom consumables, IT applications and consumables, reproduced class workbooks and worksheets and classroom learning experiences. For more information regarding the SRS, please visit our website below.

https://jonehillss.eq.edu.au/

If you have previously opted in to the SRS your participation is assumed for the remainder of your child's enrolment, unless you inform the school otherwise by completing a new participation agreement form. If you are a new parent to the school, this information will assist you in making a decision as to whether you wish to participate in the SRS.

What is provided by the Queensland Government?

The Queensland Government supports children’s education by providing funding for instruction (teachers), facilities (school grounds and buildings, internet), and administration (staff to run the school). Funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use and many items used by the student in the classroom.

The SRS helps parents to source these resources. The school can purchase resources at lower rates due to its bulk buying power. Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a period of time are hired to students to further reduce costs for families. Participating in the SRS also offers a convenient way for parents to source the items that their child needs for school and ensures that all students have access to the same standard of resources.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast club will be held every Thursday at 8:30am under the old Administration building.
