Social Distancing Restrictions
Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement strict hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures will be followed at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- water bottles for personal use
Sick Students
It is essential that parents/carers keep children home from school if they are unwell. In accordance with Queensland Health Directives parents or carers of any child showing signs of illness will be asked to collect them immediately from the school. If a child is being tested for CO-VID, parents/carers need to inform the school by contacting the office on 54 890555.
Kind Regards,

Dishwasher Donation
A very big thank you to Sunshine Coast Washers and Fridges for their donation of a dishwasher to our service. This will certainly make our job much easier.
Cairns
Hi All,
The Cairns Trip (November 1 to November 5) is fast approaching. How exciting! We have Covid-19 safe plans for all of our activities and all the venues that we will visit.
It is mandatory that the students wear their school uniform shirt to travel to and from the excursion. This means that on the Sunday we leave, students will be dressed in their school shirts and will arrive home in their school shirts. This is a requirement of the airline and it also allows us easy identification of the students.
A list of items to bring was sent home last term with the students and is attached below for your convenience. Students must wear sun safe clothes, including shirts with collars and sleeves. School hats should be worn. It is highly recommended that your child wears collared shirts (like polo shirts). Students are not to wear/bring singlets or tank tops with no sleeves. The sun is very harsh in this area of Queensland and sunburn/sun damage will happen extremely fast. Students also need to have a long sleeved rash vest or swim suit and clear face zinc. Students are to bring two pair of sandshoes and a pair of thongs.
Medication is to be dropped into the office by Friday, October 30. Please see the office if you would like to have your child carry travel sickness tablets.
Do not bring cameras, mobile phones, electronic devices, money, lollies, torches or jewellery. Cameras for the students to use will be provided by the school.
A COVID-19 Customer Questionnaire for the airline will be sent home on Thursday 29 October and must be filled out, signed and returned on Friday 30 October for travel on Sunday morning. Students who do not have this form will not be allowed to fly.
The buses will leave the school at 5:45am sharp on Sunday morning 1 November. Students should be at the school no later than 5:15am. This will allow time to pack bags, check for medication and board. It is very important that we leave on time so we do not have to rush through the airport.
We will arrive back to the Brisbane airport at approximately 10pm on Thursday evening. We will then travel by bus back to the school. The estimated time of arrive at the school is 12.30am but we will text parents on the night with more accurate times.
Due to the late arrival home Thursday, students are not expected to be at school on Friday.
Students will be given a water bottle and a blue bag tag. Please ensure that the tag is filled out and attached to the luggage. The water bottle is to be filled and placed in the child’s small carryon backpack (school bags are perfect for this).
Morning tea is to be provided by the parent for Sunday and to be packed in the backpack. Please ensure that these are wrapped in disposable packaging.
Teachers attending the trip will speak with the students over the next couple of weeks to talk about behaviour expectations, sleeping arrangements and most of all, the places we are visiting. Some of these activities will include; Cairns Aquarium, Daintree Forest, Mossman Gorge, Great Barrier Reef, Crocodile Farm, Kuranda Railway and many other activities.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 54890555.

BUNDABERG TOUCH TOURNAMENT
The 2020 Bundaberg/Widebay touch tournament was a great success for our Jones Hill Mixed Touch Team. Our awesome players played four undefeated games to make it to the Grand Final. The grand final was an exciting and high performance match played against Victory College. Jones Hill won the grand final winning by one point and received the District Shield. Jones Hill team member, Mathew was awarded an outstanding player medal for his efforts in the grand final game.
On behalf of the Jones Hill State School I want to thank Natalie Bates (Coach), Tanya O’Hanlon, Kirsty Delisser and parents for transporting and supporting the players. I also want to acknowledge and congratulate the players for their hard work at training, being outstanding players on the field and for following the Jones Hill expectations outside the school environment. Our school is certainly proud of the following players: (6C) - Fred, Matthew, Georgia, Lucas, (6G) - Cooper, Chayse, (5R) - Emmett, Izabel, Madelyn, (5CL) - Ebony, Lainey, (4MD) - Jai and Rieland.

MATHS
Number Talks
A Number Talk is a short, daily routine that provides students with meaningful ongoing practice with computation.
A Number Talk is a powerful tool for helping students develop computational fluency because the expectation is that they will use number relationships and the structures of numbers to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
A number talk is an opportunity for children to learn that they can figure things out for themselves in the way that makes sense to them.
Activity ideas:
Roll a dice three times; create as many number sentences as you can with these digits.
For example: 3 6 1
Multiplication:
Have a go at these problems. How could you work them out?
2 x 125
4 x 25
6 x 100
6 x 20
6 x 125
Fifteens
Draw a three by three grid, with the digits 0-9 written to the sides of the grid.
Players choose to pay with even or odd numbers. They take turns to write one of their numbers in the grid.
Numbers can only be used once.
The aim of the game is to make a line of three digits that add to 15 (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). The player to complete a line of 15 wins.
JAPANESE CORNER
With Sensei
Minna-san konnichwa,
We are having a SENSEI-tional time in Japanese learning about how to order a meal at McDonalds…… in Japanese! Not only are we learning the language but we are also learning about the cultural similarities and differences when ordering and eating food in Japanese. This fits in perfectly to this week’s phrase of the week:
Gou ni haitte wa gou ni shitagae: When you join another village, follow the rules.
A similar phrase in English would be: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” This Japanese quote is a good reminder to be respectful to others, no matter where you are in the world or who you are talking with.
See you all in Japanese class.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Focus has been:
Safety in the Playground
Last week, the students of 2B learnt about safety in the playground. We brainstormed the following rules that would ensure a safe and fun atmosphere during playtime.
- Watch where you are going and be mindful of those around you.
- No running up the slide.
- Keep your hat on your head at all times.
- No climbing on the frame.
- Be patient and wait your turn on the Monkey Bars.
Students were excited to demonstrate how to use the playground safely in their lunchtime.
