LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

This will be our last newsletter for 2020.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families for their support and perseverance during the ups and downs of the year.

This year we faced learning at home during the global pandemic, returning to learning at school with a changed set of rules around social distancing and hygiene.

We also faced a new reality on how we are able to operate as a school with streaming events that parents and family were not able to attend. While we have tried to keep our community in the loop and part of the school it is not the same as being able to interact face to face.

Our staff stood up when we needed them most and changed the way we delivered our learning and interacted with our families. They are to be commended for how they have operated and I am very proud to be the Principal of our school community.

Once students returned to school we set about making sure they got the most out of their learning. Our year 5 & 6 students had an amazing trip to Cairns in lieu of not being able to travel to Canberra (I think we are all still recovering!).

Jones Hill P&C have taken over before and after school care. At the end of the term we will run our first vacation care. This has been nothing short of an amazing effort to comply with the multitude of policies and quality assurance processes that go with running a service such as this. A huge thank you to Mrs Tammy Pengelly who has put in a massive number of hours to make this successful.

This year has also seen a different approach to how we finish up the school year.

Our Christmas concert items have been filmed in classes and will be posted on FaceBook next week.

The Awards Ceremony has been recorded and will also be posted next week. Congratulations to all the of the award recipients.

A special mention to Mrs Rose and Mrs Hurren who have had to learn video editing skills to make this happen.

Year 6 Graduation will take place on the evening of 7th December and will be starting at 5.30pm. The school holds a small and respectful ceremony for students as part of the completion of primary schooling and transition to high school. This evening is for year 6 students and 2 guests only.

On Wednesday December 9, we will say farewell to our year 6 students. We would like to thank them for being a very enthusiastic, helpful and mature group who had to persevere through very different learning circumstances this year. As they come to the end of their primary school lives, we would like to wish them all the best and success in their future endeavours. Good luck to everyone as you start your high school journey.

Class lists for next year will be posted on the pin boards under the old admin block next week.

Again, a huge thank you to our staff, students and families for your support this year. We have a wonderful school community and look forward to what we will achieve in the 2021.

Have a safe and happy break.

The Year 5 students braved the heat on Monday and had a great time at the High Ropes Leadership Day. An enthusiastic group of students going into year 6 and leadership roles next year. Thank you to all the staff who attended the day and made it so successful.
