LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

NAPLAN

Year 3 and year 5 students will be participating in the NAPLAN Online testing this year, in the areas of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The testing will be conducted over two weeks, 11th – 21st May. We will be preparing the students with practice sessions in the computer LAB during term 1 and early term 2.

Social Distancing Restrictions

Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.

Hygiene Measures

We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.

  • regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
  • increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
  • regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
  • individual water bottles for personal use

Kind Regards,

James Watt – Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

Hi Everyone,

PLAYGROUND

If you have been following the Jones Hill School Facebook page, you will have seen the progress of the new junior playground beside the hall. The playground has been almost erected and we are now waiting for the softfall to be laid. This should happen this week as long as we have good weather. Once the softfall is laid it will only take a few days for the playground to be completed!

JAPANESE CORNER

Minna-san Konnichiwa, (Hello everyone),

Are you ready for this week's Japanese lesson? This week at Jones Hill we have been learning colours with the younger grades. I thought it might be a nice introduction for the kids to teach their family members a few colours in Japanese.

あおい  Aoi = Blue

あか  Aka = red

みどり  Midori = Green

きいろ  Kiiro = Yellow

むらさきMurasaki = Purple

ピンク Pinku = Pink

Aoi = Blue

Aka = red

Midori = Green

Kiiro = Yellow

Murasaki = Purple

Pinku = Pink

C'mon, you should be able to remember Green and Pink! Take a look around you now. Can you name the colours of the things that you see around you now in Japanese? Good luck!!

Stay Japanesey

RELAY FOR LIFE

Each year Jones Hill State School enters a team in the Gympie Regional Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services. Relay is a chance for the Gympie community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives. The 2021 Gympie Relay will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 30 and 31.

All students are invited to join our 2021 Relay Team. School teams will only participate on the Saturday from approx. 2pm to 8pm. Please note students from Prep to Year 3 will require a parent or guardian to supervise them on the day.

LEMS PHONICS

In our last newsletter, we had information about syllables. This week we are looking at one of our syllable rules. Here is the rule:

Divide compound words between the words. E.g. sun.set

A compound word is made up of two words. Each word has its own meaning e.g. the sun and a set of pencils. However, when you join them together to form a compound word it creates a new meaning – sunset. When discussing the syllables, we remember that each syllable must contain a vowel and that we divide compound words between the two words.
