LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
We have certainly had an interesting last week, with the Greater Brisbane area going into lockdown for the last three days of term 2, which has affected some of our families. We appreciate all the support and understanding from our Jones Hill community and families. As we head into the Easter break, we would like to wish all of our children, parents/carers and staff a very happy and safe holiday.
Staff Update
As term 2 draws to a close, we farewell Mr Usher who is taking a position at Palmview SS. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours and adventures. We also say farewell to Mrs Cuschieri, who will be starting her maternity leave. We look forward to seeing her next term with her little bundle of joy and wish her well as she becomes a first-time mother. We welcome Amanda Elson who will be teaching 1C and is eager to meet the children. Mrs Elson has been in contact with Mrs Cuschieri to provide a smooth transition for every student and the class.
CROSS COUNTRY
On Monday, the students participated in the Jones Hill Cross Country. This event was a lot of fun with children cheering for each other and their Sport’s House. They all tried their best and kept running to cross the finish line and get points for their house. At the conclusion of the Cross Country, the winning house was Radford with 182 points, Doran on 176 and McPaul was 162. A very close result. Congratulations to Radford and well done to all of our competitors.

NAPLAN
Year 3 and year 5 students will be participating in the NAPLAN Online testing this year, in the areas of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The testing will be conducted over two weeks, 11th – 21st May. We will be preparing the students with practice sessions in the computer LAB during term 1 and early term 2.
Social Distancing Restrictions
Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- individual water bottles for personal use
Kind Regards,
James Watt - Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

JAPANESE CORNER
No Easter in Japan but Cherry Blossoms
Minna-san Konnichiwa, (Hello everyone),
Yes, you read right. Japan doesn’t have Easter but they have something just as exciting……… Cherry Blossoms.
Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) are the beautiful pink flowers that are common in Japan. They bloom around Easter time but they only bloom for as little as 7-10 days each year. Japanese people celebrate by having 'Hana-mi' (Literally flower viewing), where they go to the local park and celebrate the arrival of Spring and the beautiful blooming blossoms.
Below is a video of the Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto, the old capital city of Japan.
Happy Easter everyone.
