LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Welcome Back to Term 2
Welcome back to term 2. The children had a wonderful first week back, displaying excellent behaviour and settling into classroom routines with ease. They finished the week by joining in the ANZAC Day Parade at school and showing their respect and remembering the service men and women who sacrificed so much for our country.
ANZAC Day
Jones Hill has a proud tradition of commemorating ANZAC Day. We held an ANZAC Day parade at school, had 25 students join us for the Dawn Service in Memorial Park and 88 students who showed their respect at the ANZAC Day School March in Mary Street. The children represented our school with pride and honour as they remembered the spirit of the ANZAC and the sacrifice so many made and still do today to keep Australia safe.
NAPLAN Online
Year 3 and year 5 students will be participating in the NAPLAN Online testing this year, in the areas of Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The testing will be conducted over two weeks, 11th – 21st May. We will be preparing the students with practice sessions in the computer LAB during term 1 and early term 2.
The students in year 3 and 5 have been preparing for the NAPLAN Online testing. The following timetable shows when the students will be participating in the NAPLAN Online assessments. The assessments will be completed in the computer lab in the library. Please refer to the timetable below for NAPLAN Online times.
Life Education Van
The Life Education Van, and teacher Niki, have arrived at Jones Hill. We would like to invite parents to a free session on Tuesday 4th May at 11:00am in the Life Education Van. Students will be attending the van to learn about Health concepts aligned with the Australian Curriculum. The modules cover the following topics:

Yr 2 - Growing Good Friends
Yr 3 – Mind Your Medicine
Yr 4 - All Systems Go
Yr 5 – bCyberwise

School Uniform
As the weather is getting colder, we would like to remind parents what the Jones Hill School uniform is. Students may wear a black fleecy lined pullover / zip jackets plain or with the school logo and black tracksuit pants. Girls may wear black leggings under skorts.
A reminder that Skorts/shorts need to be an appropriate length as per the Jones Hill State School Uniform Policy. ‘Skorts/shorts are not to be shorter than mid-thigh length.’
Please put your child’s name on all items, including their jumper. Lost items with names will be returned to the student.
Social Distancing Restrictions
Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- individual water bottles for personal use
Kind Regards,

2022 YEAR 5/6 CANBERRA TRIP
From 19/06/22 to 24/06/22 Jones Hill School is planning a school excursion to Canberra. This excursion will be available to the students who are currently in year 4 and year 5. This excursion was first run in 2016 and was very successful with students coming away full of amazing memories and life-long impressions of our national capital’s past and present. This trip is highly educational as well as a lot of fun. The students will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of Australia’s origins, political history and layers of government with visits to Parliament House, the War Memorial and the Royal Australian Mint. There will also be a chance to visit the National Gallery of Australia, the National Zoo and Aquarium, Questacon, enjoy a trip to the snow fields and the Sydney Opera House just to name a few.
In order to give parents the best opportunity to pay for this excursion we will begin payment plans as of this term, Term 2, 2021. This will allow all families the chance to participate. It is hoped that parents and students will fundraise to help reduce the cost for all students. With increasing pressures on accommodation facilities we are required to book now and pay a deposit.
The first parent/student information session will be held this term to discuss the proposed itinerary, payment plan options and answer any questions. Pam Walsh from EducaTours will visit the school at the end of this year or early next year.
The cost of the trip in 2020 was $1300. We are hoping that this trip will cost less because more students will attend as there is a bigger cohort and parents can fundraise for the entire year.
If you have any questions at all regarding the Canberra Trip 2022, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 54890555 or admin@jonehillss.eq.edu.au.
Expression of interest letters were sent home today with year 4 and 5 students. Please return these as soon as possible. A copy of the letter is available in the link below.
NEW PLAYGROUND
Work is nearing completion on our project to transform the junior playground into a new and improved play space. The new playground will feature a vertical climber, curved monkey bars, Ninja monkey bars, tunnel net, spiderweb net, spiral slide and a single slide, just to name a few exciting new play elements. This playground will be an amazing and exciting new play area for the lower school. The playground will be ready for use by Tuesday next week.

JAPANESE CORNER
Minna-san Konnichiwa, (Hello everyone),
Hope you are all as excited as I am for Japanese this term........
This term the lower grades (P-2) will be gearing up for their introduction speech while the upper grades (3-6) will be learning about the Olympic Games which will be in Tokyo starting in under 2 months’ time.
But news that is even bigger than the Olympics is that Toyah Sensei (my amazing and tolerant wife) has joined the wonderful team down at OSHC. Each Monday, Toyah will be conducting some Japanese cultural activities such as Origami, Calligraphy and cooking some yummy Japanese foods for our Koala Kids to make and sample.
Have a SENSEI-tional term two, everyone.
Stay Japanesey
