LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Sports Day

Jones Hill Sports Day will be held on the last day of term 2, Friday, June 25. The students are busy practising their running, throwing and jumping skills in preparation for a fun-filled day of competition and doing their best. Parents are welcome to attend this event, however we are still required to follow COVID restrictions. Students will need to wear their coloured shirt for Sports Day – Doran is yellow, McPaul is blue and Radford is red.

Year 6 into 7 Parent Information Session

James Nash and Gympie High School will be holding their final information session for parents of children currently in year 6 on Wednesday, June 16 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. This session will be held at Gympie South State School in their Hall. You will receive information regarding the transition process from Primary to High School. You will also have the opportunity to meet the staff and learn about life at high school.

Australian Early Development Census

Playing out part to build a national picture of child health.

In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).

The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.

Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level – it isn’t an assessment of individual children.

Some teachers have also noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.

Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.

A letter or explanation and census form has been sent home with all Prep students yesterday.

To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website:

http://www.aedc.gov.au/

If you have any questions, please contact our school on 5489 0555.

Social Distancing Restrictions

Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.

Hygiene Measures

We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.

  • regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
  • increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
  • regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
  • individual water bottles for personal use

Kind Regards,

James Watt - Principal

FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER

Hi Everyone,

QKR

Qkr IS coming soon to Jones Hill Primary School P&C in term 3, 2021!

Jones Hill Primary School P&C is excited to offer all parents the ability to order and pay for your child’s P&C/Tuckshop items using your smartphone, tablet or computer. The new Qkr (pronounced ‘quicker’) by MasterCard application is a secure and easy way to make P&C payments at your convenience. We encourage all parents to use Qkr as it reduces the need to send cash to school or attend in person, and receipts are automatically generated that can be easily retrieved on the app or sent to your email. Apart from making life easier for families, it also significantly streamlines operations with the tuckshop .

What can be ordered and paid for via Qkr?

  • Tuckshop
  • Fundraisers (pie drive, sports lunches, raffle tickets)
  • Event tickets

The Qkr app can be downloaded for free from Apple’s app store for iPhones (iPads to download iPhone version) or from Google Play for Android phones and tablets. The Qkr ‘How-to’ Guide from the P&C shows you how to download the app, register yourself and your children, and pay for a variety of school items.

From Monday 12 July parents will be able to make tuckshop orders and payments for fundraisers on Qkr and there will be more items available for payment over time. We will be providing additional information to families over the coming weeks as we move to online payments within the P&C.

Please click on the link for further information.

P&C NEWS

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

The challenge has started and we can hear the pages turning! Keep up the fantastic reading everyone.

We encourage all students to take part in the reading challenge and read as many books as they can. All books can be counted. Teachers will be making a list of books read in class and this will be added to the student’s number of books read.

Keep reading everyone!

MATH

Why do students choose the answer 16 or 11? What is the misconception?

Students who answer the above question with an 11 or a 16, show that they see the equals sign as being ‘operational’ meaning that it calculates an answer.

Rather the equals sign is a mathematical symbol that means balance (same as). This means that what is on both sides of the equals sign is balanced or the same.

For example, 7+4 equals (or you could say ‘is the same as’) 6+5

Have a go at working out these examples:

2 + 4 = __ + 3
9 = 5 + __
12 + 10 = 30 - __
14 = 28 - __
6 + 4 = __ + 3

JAPANESE CORNER

Minna-san Konnichiwa (Hello everyone),

How wonderful has the weather been recently?

Japan is now entering what they call rainy season (called 'tsuyu' which directly translates as 'plum rain' as rainy season coincides with when plums ripen in Japan). This weather pattern comes about when the warm air from the south meets with the cool air from the north which brings about unstable weather for roughly six weeks or so. It all depends on where you are in Japan but in Tokyo it usually starts in early June and goes through to mid-July. After that, it gets hot in Japan, really hot..... Just in time to hold the Olympics........ but that's another story.

Despite this, Rainy season can actually be a nice time to visit Japan, if you can dodge the really wet days. You can beat the crowds at the popular areas like Disneyland, Asakusa, and Harajuku but it is also a wonderful opportunity to go and visit temples and shrines up in the hills that are mysteriously covered by fog and mist. The steamy conditions also make the vegetation burst into life with ajisai (hydrangea) being particularly beautiful at this time of the year.

Please make sure you are enjoying the wonderful weather.

Have a SENSEI-tional week and stay Japanesey.

Stay Japanesey
