This was presented at the state-wide conference last week. Congratulations to Tammy a well deserved award.
Our Concert band won first at the Eisteddfod this week, with our strings ensemble taking out second. A great result for their hard work, dedication and family support getting them to all the early morning practices. Congratulation to the students, Mr Berry and Ms Smith.
The Concert Band will be performing on parade this Friday.

Last week Jones Hill also won the Regional Showcase award for ‘Towards Zero.’ This award recognises the outstanding work of our staff and students in ensuring all students achieve their best. This will be presented on parade this week.
BOOK WEEK READ-A-THON

Once your reading record and sponsorship form are complete, please return to the office. Book Week is August 23rd – 27th.
Social Distancing Restrictions
Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- individual water bottles for personal use
Kind Regards,

YEAR 4 CAMP
In week 2 our Year 4 students had a fantastic adventure as they attended school camp at the Barambah Environmental Centre. From bushwalking, weapons and cooking damper on the fire, to gold mining, star gazing and chopping wood, the students were put through paces as they discovered what life was like in previous generations. Students then developed their teamwork skills through the low ropes course and worked on their personal skills as they organised themselves for meals, activities and cabins. The students’ resilience was tested in the subzero temperatures but everyone banded together and soon warmed-up once the activities began. Congratulations to 4B who narrowly won the sock wrestling championships for 2021, with both classes showing great tenacity and sportsmanship. Throughout the camp our students were fine representatives for our school, demonstrating the values of respect, learning, relationships and safety and the Barambah staff were full of praise for the way they conducted themselves. We should be very proud of them all. An enormous thank you to Mr Hubner, Mrs Jones and Mr Worth who braved the cold conditions and helped us on camp and to Mr Watt, Mrs Seed and all of the office staff for helping us in our preparations. We couldn’t have done it without you and your assistance was much appreciated.

NATIONAL TREE PLANTING DAY

JAPANESE CORNER
Minna-san konnichiwa!
Maybe I am a little biased, but I for one have thoroughly enjoyed every second of the Olympics. It is amazing to see both the Aussies and the Japanese doing so well. Whether it be Gymnastics, weightlifting, running, shooting, jumping, throwing or whatever, it is a marvel to witness what we, as humans can physically accomplish.
One sport making its appearance for the first time at the Olympics is Karate. I have really enjoyed telling the munchkins about the meaning of Karate and its origins. Karate literally means 'empty hand' (Kara= empty and te= hand) and was invented in the 1870s when the King of Okinawa, the southernmost area of Japan suddenly banned the use of weapons in the area. In response, the locals founded Karate as a way to protect themselves, their family and their possessions. A century and a half later it is now an Olympic Sport.
If you have a child in Years 3-6, see if they can tell you about what the word Karate means and the origin of Karate.
Here is to Australia (and Japan) winning even more Gold Medals!
Stay Japanesey.
