LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Prep Pop Up Adventure Morning
Last week we were very excited to welcome our Prep 2022 children for a visit and fun activities at school. The sun was shining and the children and parents had a great time meeting new friends, teachers, teacher aides and participating in activities and games. There will be another opportunity for the Prep 2022 children to visit Jones Hill on the 8th September between 9am – 10am for the transition activities.
P&C Disco
Last Friday night we had the disco at school. Lots of fun, games, laughing and dancing was enjoyed by everyone. Thank you to Mrs Krafft, the P&C and staff who attended to make the night a success.
Book Week
Next week 23rd – 27th August is Book Week. Dress up as your favourite book character on Friday 27th August. The theme is: Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds. Mr Watt, the teachers and staff are busy getting their costumes ready. We are looking forward to seeing you all dressed up and sharing in the joy of books and reading.
Read-a-thon
During Book Week, Jones Hill students will be participating in a Read-a-thon. Read your books, get your sponsors and raise money to buy books for our school. Every child that raises $10 or more can choose a showbag prize! The student who raises the most money wins a huge, delicious box of chocolates and lollies! If you need a Read-a-thon form pick one up at the office or ask your teacher.
Social Distancing Restrictions
Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.
Hygiene Measures
We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.
- regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
- increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
- individual water bottles for personal use
Kind Regards,
James Watt – Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

QKR!
Qkr! Online Payment System
Qkr! by Mastercard
Jones Hill Primary School has a preferred online payment system for parents to pay for P&C events and eventually tuckshop. This term we have commenced using QKR! as our preferred payment method for P&C events. You do not need a credit card to use Qkr!, it will work with debit cards as well.
The first two events you can use Qkr! for are;
- Read-a-thon – August 23 to 27
Qkr! pronounced ‘quicker’ is a convenient and secure system allowing you to pay for P&C events. Qkr is a Mastercard product and comes with all of their security.
Qkr can be used on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
Qkr assists our school community by:
- saving time allowing parents/guardians to pay for P&C activities at any time of day or night, every day of the year;
- reducing the need for students to bring cash to school and parents completing credit card details on payment envelopes and forms
- reducing paper consumption;
- reducing the time school staff spend on administrative tasks;
Step 1. Download the Qkr! by
Mastercard app from;
- App Store for iPhone
- Google Play for Android
Step 2. Select Australia as Country of Residence
Step 3. Find our School – Jones Hill State Primary School
Step 4. Follow the prompts to set up your account.

MUSIC NEWS
We are very excited to be starting our Jones Hill Junior Choir this term. Last week, interested students signed up to be part of this choir, which is offered to Prep-Year 2. Any interested students who were away will be able to sign up this week as well.
Our Junior Choir will run at first break on Fridays. Teachers and student leaders will collect students from eating areas every Friday, after eating time, and walk them to the hall.
To make sure we have a consistent group coming each week, we do require that students who have signed up keep coming to rehearsals for that term. After we perform on parade students would then be able to decide to re-join, sign up if they hadn't before or not sign-up for the next term. We have discussed the term-long commitment (or pinkie promise as the Prep students like to call it!) with the students and will have staff supporting them with being able to remember what day and time this is on and where to go.
We anticipate that towards the end of each term we will have a song or two ready to perform on parade. Please keep an eye out in the newsletter and on Facebook for information when these dates have been confirmed.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me on lrose67@eq.edu.au
We look forward to making some (very cute) music with our Junior Choir!

MATH
Pizza, smarties, marshmallows, apples, oranges and playdough. Are the Year 4 students having a party? No, they have been learning about fractions. This term our Year 4 students have been learning about common fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions. They have located fractions on a number line using string and pegs and have compared equivalent fractions using playdough. To investigate that the denominator signifies the number of equal pieces in which a whole is divided, we ordered pizzas from the tuckshop. We found as more people came to our pizza party and the denominator increased, the size of the slice of pizza unfortunately decreased. We have found a fraction of a whole number by making equal groups of smarties and cut up pieces of fruit to share a mixed number. Fractions can be a difficult concept for some students but our year fours have done really well and have enjoyed a mix of explicit teaching of concepts and hands on activities.

JAPANESE CORNER
Shimajiro!
We have had a very special guest in the Prep to Year 2 classrooms helping us learn our body parts. It was really wonderful to see so many kids bring in their teddy bears and show so much enthusiasm to learn Japanese. I am one very proud Japanese Teacher.
Here are a few body part words that Shimajiro showed us:
Head: atama
Nose: hana
Eyes: me
Ears: mimi
Mouth: kuchi
Shoulders: kata
Legs: ashi
Hands: te
I am sure the kids would love to teach any parent willing to listen the body parts in Japanese.
Stay Japanesey.
