LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Term 3 has been very busy with Sports Day, Book Week celebrations, Author Visit with Chris Collins, the P&C Disco, Year 2 Sleepover Camp, Year 2 Mary Valley Rattler Excursion, Year 4 Barambah Camp, the Japanese Speech Contest, Year 1 Fire Truck Visit, Prep 2022 Pop Up Adventure morning, Prep 2022 Transition Activities and the Gympie Eisteddfod with great results for our Concert Band winning first place and the Strings Ensemble winning second place. The term has ended with parents/carers having the opportunity to have a Parent/Teacher Interview to discuss their child’s progress and achievements.

We would like to wish all our students, families and staff a very safe and relaxing holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and ready for a term of learning and fun in term 4.

SPORTING EVENTS

As we near the end of term 3, some of our students are participating in various sports. The netball grand final was a very close competition between McPaul and Doran, with McPaul victorious 16-13. The children really enjoyed learning new skills and had a lot of fun. Thank you to Mrs Bates who trained the students and organised the games for students to play at lunch times.

Jones Hill has a team competing at the Broncos Challenge and the Touch Football Carnival this week. The teams have been training very hard with Mr Rentz, Mrs Bates and Mr Littler. We would like to wish these teams all the best and know they will represent our school with pride.

ANZAC MEMORIAL WALL AND OUTDOOR STAGE

Construction of the wall and outdoor stage is now complete and looks very impressive. The ANZAC plaques are in production and we will have these added to the wall in the near future. We are looking forward to using this area for ANZAC Day ceremonies and school performances.

SWIMMING

Next term the Prep classes, 1B, 1C, 1H, 1/2S, 2B, 2KR, 3B and 3D will participate in swimming lessons. Swimming is on every Monday in weeks 2-9. Prep classes will swim at Deep Blue Aquatics with instructors and years 1 to 3 students will swim at Gympie South SS with Mr Littler. The Learn to Swim Program is part of the Australian Curriculum and is an essential skill for children to learn, especially living in Queensland. Permission and medical forms and payment must be received before your child will be allowed to attend swimming lessons.

JUNIOR CHOIR PERFORMANCE

Our Junior Choir will give their first performance during parade this Friday. We look forward to hearing them sing.

Kind Regards,

James Watt - Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME

Last night at the P&C Meeting a motion was passed to continue the Student Resource Scheme in 2022. The cost will remain at $120.

The Student Resource Scheme at JHSS provides classroom stationery lists, classroom consumables, IT applications and consumables, reproduced class workbooks and worksheets and classroom learning experiences. For more information regarding the SRS, please visit our website below.

https://jonehillss.eq.edu.au/

If you have previously opted into the SRS your participation is assumed for the remainder of your child's enrolment, unless you inform the school otherwise by completing a new participation agreement form. If you are a new parent to the school, this information will assist you in making a decision as to whether you wish to participate in the SRS.

What is provided by the Queensland Government?

The Queensland Government supports children’s education by providing funding for instruction (teachers), facilities (school grounds and buildings, internet), and administration (staff to run the school). Funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use and many items used by the student in the classroom.

The SRS helps parents to source these resources. The school can purchase resources at lower rates due to its bulk buying power. Resources such as textbooks or musical instruments that will be used over a period of time are hired to students to further reduce costs for families. Participating in the SRS also offers a convenient way for parents to source the items that their child needs for school and ensures that all students have access to the same standard of resources.

2021 YEARBOOK

Orders for the 2021 yearbook are now being taken. Please send in orders (with money) soon or drop by the office to pay. Yearbooks are still $16 each.

MATH

Year 6 have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages, negative and positive integers, cartesian planes and transformations. Some students are also involved in a chess tournament. Some students have revised and consolidated previously taught concepts to help them understand new concepts that are taught in year 6. Other students have been extended to a greater understanding of year 6 concepts. This has been done through a range of activities including; practicing work in their books, hands on activities which are to consolidate measuring and the decimal system, problem solving and open-ended questioning. Some students took on the roles of teachers, as you can see Angus giving a lesson. Students are taught chess because it enhances logical thinking, a must for mathematicians.

COVID GUIDELINE INFORMATION

Social Distancing Restrictions

Although students are able to be near each other in classrooms, we are still under the direction from Qld Health to adhere to social distancing rules for adults. Therefore, we are restricting adult contact in school, by asking parents/carers to not enter classrooms and to drop off and pick up children in safe locations, outside the school gates or as arranged by the teacher. Thank you for your assistance in helping to keep everyone safe.

Hygiene Measures

We will continue to implement consistent hygiene measures to keep our students and staff safe. The following hygiene procedures are in place at school.

  • regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • encouraging students and staff to cough or sneeze into their elbow
  • increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
  • regular cleaning of play equipment and materials
  • individual water bottles for personal use
