LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
Our first official week is underway and it is really nice to have our students back in full classes and getting into a bit of learning normality.
Thank you to our families for their support of the processes we have had to implement to get things underway. We appreciate your understanding as we all work through the evolving events that we find ourselves in.
In this newsletter you will meet some of our new staff through their profiles. I would like to welcome them to our Jones Hill Community and am looking forward to them becoming invaluable members of our team.
2022 is shaping up to be an exciting year as we reinvigorate our curriculum and projects around the school.
I’m sure 2022 will continue to throw up challenges throughout the year as it has done so far. Our focus will always be the safety and education of our students. We will continue to make sensible and informed decisions as events change and keep you up to date as we always have.
We will shortly receive the plaques for our ANZAC Memorial as our vision nears completion.
We should see some works on the upgrade of our hall this year with new flooring, lighting, fans and insulation. This is on top of the new sound system installed at the end of last year.
Jones Hill will also receive a fencing upgrade which should be completed by June.
A busy but exciting start!
SWIMMING

STUDENT ABSENCE
Each parent of a child who is of compulsory school age has the legal obligation to ensure their child is enrolled and attends a state school or a non-state school, on every school day for the educational program in which the child is enrolled, unless the parent has a reasonable excuse. The safety and wellbeing of students are the highest priorities for the Department. Parents need to know if their child hasn't turned up for school, and schools need to know when and why a child is absent. Parents are required to contact the school on, or prior, to a student being absent. Absences may be reported by phone, written note or by using the QParent App. State schools will be required to notify parents on the same day that any student is absent from school without explanation. The school will send out daily SMS text messages to notify parents that their child is absent and allows a reply service for you to explain the absence.

STAFF PROFILES
Emma Green
My name is Emma Green and I have been teaching for 19 years. Somewhere in the middle of those 19 years, I spent 7 years working for Gympie Regional Libraries while my son, Riley was little. I lived in Tin Can Bay for many years and I love swimming, paddling my SUP and being near the water. I also enjoy other outdoor activities including riding my road bike and mountain bike, hiking and walking and I have played soccer and squash.
My favourite quiet activity is reading and when I am feeling happy, I love listening to all sorts of music. My favourite holidays have been biking in Peru and New Zealand and hiking in Tasmania – I love exploring new places.
I am very excited to be teaching Grade 4 and being a part of the Jones Hill community.
Megan Austin
My name is Megan Austin and I am one of three grade 2 teachers this year. It’s a pleasure to be back, however a lot has changed over the past 5 years. Lots of new faces! For those of you who don’t know me from my years of teaching here, I am a mother of three adult children and proud mama of three beautiful grandbabies! My husband and I are currently building a tiny home and we love all things green. We enjoy gardening and being in nature. I look forward to connecting with all the lovely Jones Hill families once again.
Nardia de Bruyn
Hello to all! I’m Nardia de Bruyn. I am very excited to be joining the Jones Hill team this year. I live in Amamoor with my beautiful family and we love spending time travelling, camping in our caravan and discovering and exploring new places.
I have been working in the Early Years for almost 30 years and I Iove it! The last three years I have been teaching in the P-2 space out at Murgon State School. Things I love…
- Swimming in the ocean
- Listening to the sound of a waterfall
- Keeping a gratitude journal
- Lying in a hammock with a good book
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Catherine Shepherdson
My name is Catherine Shepherdson and I am excited to become a part of the Jones Hill State School community this year. My family and I moved to Gympie over the Christmas holidays from Emerald in Central Queensland where we have lived for the past 20+ years. I have four children with my youngest attending Jones Hill, my eldest heading off for his first year of university and the other two at high school. As well as taking time away from teaching to raise my children, I have worked in a number of schools in Emerald in a variety of positions including classroom teacher and support teacher. I am excited to be working with children and their teachers and parents in my role as one of the inclusion support teachers at Jones Hill for 2022.
Regina Fairbrother
My name is Regina Fairbrother and I am very excited to be a part of the Jones Hill SS community.
I’m a born and bred country girl, growing up on a cattle property near Glenmorgan (2hrs west of Dalby). I completed the majority of my school years in Chinchilla. After finishing school, I moved to Brisbane to complete my teaching degree. After graduating, my family moved to the Gympie area. I started my teaching career at Yuleba SS, teaching there for three years before moving onto Dalby. I then taught at Dalby SS for four years. Even though I have enjoyed my time out west it was time for a change and to be close to family once again.
When I’m not teaching I enjoy running (avid parkrunner), baking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
I am beyond grateful for this opportunity at Jones Hill SS and look forward to working with and contributing to the school community.
CONTAINERS PLEASE
Keep bringing in your containers for recycling. All plastic bottles, aluminium cans, tetra packs can be dropped off to the office. Glass bottles can be brought in by adults only.
The Jones Hill SS community is doing their part to reduce landfill and keep our waterways clean. Thank you to all of our families and students for supporting this very worthy cause.
