LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
It has been wonderful to see how students have settled back into school this term. We are back into our routine and getting on with learning which is a nice change from the COVID focus.
We have seen students coming to visit the office, proud to show their writing and work.
Welcome to our new families who have joined us over the last couple of weeks. I am sure you are settling into life at Jones Hill well.
Congratulations to our new teachers, who have settled into the Jones Hill way so quickly and are becoming invaluable members of our team. I hope you are enjoying reading their profiles as we roll them out over the next few weeks.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support as we continue to monitor student and staff health and wellbeing. We will continue to see some minor disruption as staff and students develop symptoms but will ensure continuity in the classroom.
This week with the weather alert and localised flooding to the Gympie Region, we have appreciated the support and understanding from our school community. We would like to acknowledge and thank the parents, carers and staff who ensured the safety of our students, which is always our first priority.
I would also like to acknowledge our students who have been representing us at the district sports trials and congratulate those who have been successful in being selected.
With the start of school well underway it is a good time to think about road and traffic safety around the school. Please ensure you are using the designated parking areas on drop off and pick up. These are both very busy times and unfortunately, we have seen some very unsafe driving behaviours that put students at risk. There has been an increased police presence at pick up times to help keep our kids safe.
SCHOOL AND HOUSE CAPTAINS
Over the next two weeks, our school leaders have the opportunity to nominate and run for School Captain and House Captain. The students will present their speech, via Teams, to classes. The year 3 to 6 students and staff will vote, following the democratic voting process we use in Australia. Democracy is part of the Australian HASS curriculum and this experience for students helps them to understand how elections and government works. Good luck to all the students running for School Captain and House Captain.

STAFF PROFILES
Penny Picone
My name is Mrs Penny Picone and I am excited to have joined the Jones Hill teaching team. I am a Mum of two boys, who outside of school definitely keep me on my toes. I am interested in children’s wholistic development and aim to nurture the growth of their academic capabilities as well as their social and emotional capacities. Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my 3 boys (including the husband), gardening, surfing, reading and remembering to be creative. Two of my most favourite sayings are, ‘Success is not final, and failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts’ (Winston Churchill) and ‘Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud’ (Maya Angelou). I look forward to meeting more of the Jones Hill SS community as the year progresses.
CONTAINERS PLEASE
Keep bringing in your containers for recycling. All plastic bottles, aluminium cans, tetra packs can be dropped off to the office. Glass bottles can be brought in by adults only.
The Jones Hill SS community is doing their part to reduce landfill and keep our waterways clean. Thank you to all of our families and students for supporting this very worthy cause.
