LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
ANZAC DAY
Jones Hill continued the proud tradition and community spirit by attending ANZAC Day Services this year. Mr Watt, Mrs Crow and the Leadership Team travelled to Brisbane for the ANZAC Day commemoration in the city. Our School Captains and students attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and we had over 100 students and staff participate in the ANZAC Day School March down Mary Street. We showed our respect and acknowledged the sacrifice that so many men and women made and continue to make to keep our country safe.

RUGBY LEAGUE GALA DAY
The Jones Hill Rugby League Team competed at the Gala Day last week. Mr Littler was very proud of their team work and the spirit in which they played the game. The team had a great day developing their skills and competing against other schools.
DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY
On Tuesday, Jones Hill students competed at the District Cross Country at the One Mile Ovals. The students competed with determination and gave their best effort. Congratulations to Lily who came 1st and Joey, who came 3rd. These students were selected for the District Cross Country Team and will compete at the Wide Bay Trials later this term.
GYMPIE SHOW
Our students and staff have put together a beautiful display for the Gympie Show. If you are attending the Show don’t forget to pop upstairs in the pavilion for a look.

REPORT CARD
Report Cards will be emailed home in Week 1, Term 3.
This is to allow teachers more time to complete units of work and assessments, due to Term 1 interruptions.
NAPLAN ONLINE
NAPLAN is used by governments, education authorities and schools to determine whether young Australians are meeting important goals in literacy and numeracy.
All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 are expected to sit the NAPLAN tests, which are held in May each year.
NAPLAN gives a snapshot of how children are performing in reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and numeracy. It complements other effective classroom assessment and reporting practices.
Online testing
In 2020, federal, state and territory education ministers agreed that all schools will transition to delivering NAPLAN online by 2022.
Benefits of online testing include:
- 'tailored testing', which gives students questions better suited to their ability, resulting in more precise results
- improving student engagement through computer-based tests.
2022 Test dates
NAPLAN testing window — 10–20 May 2022.
For information regarding the NAPLAN testing timetable, contact your child’s school or visit ACARA’s NAPLAN test timetables website.
Test times and materials
This document summarises the session time of each test and lists the materials allowed.
Format of the tests
For all eligible year levels (Years 3, 5, 7 and 9) there are 4 test domains: writing, reading, conventions of language and numeracy. Below is a summary of the format for each test.
- Writing: Students are given a stimulus and asked to construct a response to the task. Their response will be based on a particular text type (narrative or persuasive). Students in Years 3 and 5 will receive different writing stimuli to students in Years 7 and 9, both of the same genre. All Year 3 students sit the writing test on paper.
- Reading: Students are given a range of texts to read. They respond to the test items using a range of response types such as multiple choice, hotspot and drag and drop items.
- Conventions of language: Students will respond to grammar and punctuation as well as spelling items. The response formats will be multiple choice, short response and other interactive response types such as hotspot and drag and drop items.
- Numeracy: Students will respond to numeracy items. The response formats will be multiple choice, short response and other interactive response types such as hotspot and drag and drop items. Students will also have access to online numeracy tools (ruler, protractor or calculator), depending on their year level. For Years 7 and 9, the numeracy test includes a non-calculator section and a calculator-allowed section.

NAPLAN
NAPLAN Online
Staff and students are excitedly anticipating our upcoming NAPLAN online sessions. Students have been eagerly practicing their skills in the online platform. Students have practiced how to use the tools to answer a variety of numeracy questions, spelling and grammar, reading comprehension questions as well as typing an imaginative or persuasive text.
Here are some questions to try:

SWPBS
What a wonderful start to the term we have had. Students have been demonstrating our expected behaviour of Respect, Learning, Safety and Relationships when lining up before and after break times.
This week, students have been reminded about how to play safely in the playgrounds. Classes have discussed that playing safely includes:
- Wearing a sun safe hat
- Using play equipment safely
- Waiting for turns patiently
- Following instructions
- Allowing others to have personal space
- Walking on concrete
- Being in the correct areas
Student leaders have been helping classes to learn about the expected behaviours by supporting behaviour lessons with short videos. The student leaders have been making short videos explaining the behaviour lesson for the week and interviewing some students and staff about what that lesson is. Teachers are then able to show these videos to their class.
MATH
In 2/3B we love to play maths games! Why math games? Games give students opportunities to explore fundamental number concepts, such as the counting sequence, one-to-one correspondence, and computation strategies. Engaging mathematical games can also encourage students to explore number combinations, place value, patterns, and other important mathematical concepts. We slowly introduce a repertoire of games and over time the kids become familiar with each one. Here are some pictures that we would like to share.
