LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

CAIRNS TRIP POSTPONED

Due to the ongoing concerns with covid and an expected comeback of a bad flu season, the trip to Cairns has been postponed until November 6, 2022. The decision was made due to having to isolate children with flu symptoms, added accommodation and return travel fees. To place students and parents in the situation of having a sick child so far away was unfair. It is hoped that by traveling in November that the risk of covid or flu will be reduced.

Unfortunately, there will be an added cost for the trip but it will be less than $100. A parent meeting will be held before the end of term.

GYMPIE SHOW DISPLAY

We are happy to announce that our 2022 Gympie Show display was awarded second place. Congratulation to all staff and students who contributed to the display.

REPORT CARD

Report Cards will be emailed home in Week 1, Term 3.

This is to allow teachers more time to complete units of work and assessments, due to Term 1 interruptions.

Winter Trees on Mary

Our school is making a new creation for Winter Trees on Mary this year. We are looking for donations of white or black wool. If you have any spare white or black wool please drop it into our school library.

MATH

Term two in 4B has been all about multiplication and division. We have been using many different types of materials to help us group and share. The use of materials in mathematics is imperative to solidify concepts and stimulate higher order thinking. They can also promote the use of mathematical language, reasoning and problem solving. Here are some photos of us using some fun and delicious materials to help us learn.

PREP 2023 Transition Program

During this year we will hold a number of different events to help children who are enrolling for Prep in 2023 become familiar with our school, our staff and give them and their parents and understanding of what school life is like. All prospective Prep students and their parents are welcome to attend as many of these events as they can.

Our first morning will be a Teddy Bear Play Day being held on Thursday, May 19. It will run from 9:00 to 10:00 in our Prep Playground. The morning will include lots of fun activities for you and your Teddy Bear. Please bring a water bottle and hat. R.S.V.P. can be emailed to jhurr5@eq.edu.au.

GUM TREE CAFÉ NEWS

The Gum Tree Cafe is open four days a week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at first break only.

• Orders are to be placed online only using the QKR! app.
• All orders need to be placed before 9am.
• A reminder that two days’ notice is required for Birthday Buckets.

HOTSHOTS TENNIS COACHING PROGRAM

Gympie and District Tennis Association Coach Michael Morton will commence Hotshots lessons at Jones Hill State School starting from the May 9.

Lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00am to 8:45am.

• Monday will be red or orange ball, ages 5 to 9
• Wednesday mornings will be green or yellow ball, ages 9+.

Price is $150 for the term (10 x $15) or based on what week you start in the term.
