LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT

Hi Everyone,

Book Week

At Jones Hill we love reading and have some excellent readers who enjoy books, digital texts and other forms of literature. We will be celebrating Book Week – 22nd – 26th August and the theme is: Dreaming with Eyes Open. Remember to get your costume ready as we are all dressing up on Friday 26th August. There will be a competition in the library, the Read-a-thon and an author visit with Karen Foxlee.

Read-a-thon

At Jones Hill we have wonderful readers! We are encouraging all student to participate in the Read-a-thon during Book Week, 22nd – 26th August. All forms were sent home this week or you can get a form from the office. All funds raised need to go on the QKR! App and money goes to the P&C for purchase of books and resources for reading.

Eisteddfod

Congratulations to the Jones Hill Concert Band and Mr Berry who came first at the Gympie Eisteddfod. The group were very proud to bring the trophy back to school and performed beautifully scoring 92/100 from the adjudicator. An excellent effort from the Jones Hill Strings Ensemble and Miss Smith, who achieved a Highly Commended for their performance.

District Athletics

Jones Hill had a number of students who competed at the District Athletics Trials last week, at Albert Park. Well done to all students who participated and performed some personal best times, throws and jumps, a truly outstanding achievement. Layne (District Age Champion) Lily, Olivia, Savannah and Ty have been selected to compete at the Wide Bay Trials and we wish them the best in their events.

School Opinion Surveys

The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.

An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey was be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 11 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.

Kind Regards,

James Watt - Principal
Stacey Seed – Deputy Principal

MATHS FUN

In maths, 2E have been exploring length using informal units. We have been using a range of units, such as counters, blocks, paddle pop sticks, books, and paper clips to measure items in our classroom. Through this exploration, students have identified that to measure items accurately, we need to measure using the same sized unit, have no gaps between the units and use an appropriate unit for the size of the item being measured. No-one wants to waste time measuring the length of our bodies, using rice grains? In addition, students have been playing a range of math games as warm-ups and to share our new knowledge of concepts in engaging ways. These games include a game called ‘Headache’ where two students place a card on their forehead, without looking, and the third student adds the two numbers on the cards and calls it out. Then the two players with the cards race each other to guess what their numbers could be. I can assure you, there are no headaches here! 2E are loving maths!

LITTLE KOALAS PLAYGROUP

The Little Koalas Playgroup runs every Wednesday afternoon this term. Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Adamson will be running the playgroup from 2pm-3pm in the PM classroom. If you have a little person, aged 0-5 years and would like to attend the playgroup, please come along and join in the fun. If you would like more information please contact Julie Mitchell on 54 890 555.
