LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
Hi Everyone,
2023 CLASSES
We are currently organising our 2023 classes. If your child will not be returning to Jones Hill School in 2023 please contact our office staff or email jhurr5@eq.edu.au.
The class lists will be posted on the noticeboards under the old Admin building on Wednesday, December 7. A lot of time and thought goes into classes and we place the students based on their learning, social and emotional needs.
COLOUR RUN EXPLOSION
On Friday, November 4 the students and staff had a great afternoon with the children running the Colour Run Explosion course. Lots of laughing and good fun was had by everyone involved. Jones Hill families raised over $13 000! This money will be used by the P&C to provide resources for your children. Computers, iPads, books, Year 6 Graduation items and more. Thank you to everyone involved, especially Mrs Crow who organised the event.

YEAR 5/6 CAMP
Cairns Trip
Last week we headed off to Cairns, with seventy-seven year 5 and 6 students. This was an adventure of a lifetime and an amazing experience. The children snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef, saw the reef from a glass bottom boat, went on an aqua duck ride and explored Mossman Gorge and the Daintree Rainforest. We conquered the ropes course and the vertical drop at the ZOOM Wildlife Centre, watched a Leopard Shark lay its egg at the Cairns Aquarium and got up close and personal with the crocodiles, koalas, reptiles, cassowaries and animals at Hartley’s Crocodile Farm. We immersed ourselves in the Indigenous Culture, watching spear throwing and the didgeridoo performance. The children learned how to throw a boomerang and joined in the Indigenous dancing. The Butterfly Sanctuary was spectacular with over 1500 bright and colourful butterflies on display.
Thank you to Mrs Pengelly, Mrs Crow, Mr Callaghan, Mr Hubner, Mrs Gills, Mr Stibbard, Mr Cunningham and Mrs Seed who attended the Cairns Trip with the children and looked after them all week. Your support and help made the trip a success and an experience the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

Kind Regards,
James Watt - Principal

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME
Invoices for the 2023 SRS have been generated this week. If you have outstanding SRS fees from 2022, you will not be eligible to join the scheme in 2023 until your fees are paid.
Jones Hill School operates a Student Resource Scheme (SRS) to:
- Minimise the costs to parents/carers of providing textbooks and other learning resources for their child/ren, by securing discounts, through early payment and bulk ordering.
- Ensure that an adequate bank of resources is available to guarantee a good quality education for all students.
- The cost per child is $120 and has been this amount since the program started 5 years ago. The majority of parents utilise the SRS.
- The scheme does not provide any funds for the Parents' and Citizens' Association, is entirely voluntary and parents/carers are under no obligation to join.
- The SRS operates under the policies and guidelines of the Department of Education. A parent who does not wish to join the scheme is responsible for providing the student with the items that would otherwise have been provided to the student by the scheme as detailed on the year level subject requirements list, to enable the student to engage with the curriculum.
- Parents wishing to take advantage of the services provided by the SRS sign the relevant form agreeing to the conditions therein upon enrolment and then pay the annual SRS participation fee. The SRS provides the entire package for the specified participation fee and is not available in part.
A parent's participation or non-participation in the scheme will continue as per their previously completed Participation Agreement Form. A parent can opt in or out of the scheme in subsequent years by completing another “Participation Agreement Form".
AWARDS NIGHT
Jones Hill School Awards Night will be held on Thursday, December 1 starting at 6:30pm in our school hall. Parents of students receiving awards will receive phone calls over the next two weeks. Dress for the evening is smart casual.
The Strings Ensemble and Concert Band will be performing on the night. Students performing will need to wear School Uniform and arrive at 6pm for warm up and tuning.
Concert Band rehearsal
Next week (week 8) Mr Berry will not be at Jones Hill. There will be no band rehearsal or brass and woodwind lessons. Percussion lessons will be on as usual.
In week 9, we have band rehearsal and lessons on the Monday as usual, however we will be missing some key players who will be at the GSHS Orientation Day. It is very important that we have all other students at this rehearsal as we will have the Awards Night performance on the Thursday (information for performance is below). In addition to the regular Monday, students should bring their instruments to school on Thursday (1/12/22) and I will schedule an in-class time to move all of the gear down to the hall and have a run through. (No need to come in before school on the Thursday).
