LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT
GYMPIE STATE HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION NIGHT
An information evening for parents of year 6 students who are transitioning to high school will be held at Jones Hill State School Thursday, May 25. The session will run from 5pm to 5:45pm and will be held in the school hall.
ANZAC DAY
On Friday, 21st April, the whole school joined families, the community and distinguished guests, Mr Tony Perrett MP, State Member for Gympie, Mr Ivan Friske OAM - Vietnam Veteran and the Chairman of Gympie Legacy and Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip, District Officer, Wide Bay Burnett Police District to commemorate ANZAC Day.
The Choir, led by Mrs Rose, performed Lest We Forget, a very moving song, with sign language. Every class made and laid a wreath, with respect and pride, at our new ANZAC Memorial Wall. Thank you to Mrs Crow and everyone who helped to the make the service so memorable. Our school captains and year 6 leaders, who ran the service were exceptional.
On Monday 24th April, Mr Watt, Mrs Seed, Mrs Crow, Miss Barnes, Mrs Brogden and Mrs Worth had the privilege of attending the ANZAC service at ANZAC Square in Brisbane. We watched the service, listened to the speeches and our school Captains, Indy and Kyran laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame. Afterwards, we explored ANZAC Square and the War Museum, which has numerous statues and tributes to servicemen and women. The students investigated wartime events, stories and artefacts using interactive technology. The day was a great learning opportunity for the students and their engagement and behaviour were excellent.

DAY FOR DOLLY
On Friday May 12th, the Peer Skills Leaders will be commemorating Day for Dolly. Dolly is a girl who tragically took her own life as a result of bullying. Students are encouraged to wear blue accessories; however, this is not a free-dress day. Jones Hill State School shirts will still need to be worn but any blue accessories will be allowed: blue shorts, blue socks, blue hair bands etc.
This is what will be occurring on Day for Dolly.
Throughout week 4, the Peer Skills Leaders will be holding a Colouring in Competition during 2nd break. There will be prizes for the best colouring in for Prep, Years 1-3 and Years 4-6. The winners will be announced on Parade on May 12th.
The Peer Skills Leaders will also be holding Team/ Character building activities on Friday May 12th, 2nd Break. (Prep Oval, Bottom Oval 1-3 and Top Oval 4-6). Prizes will also be awarded here as well.
As this is not a free dress day, a gold coin donation is not required.
YEAR 2/3 RUGBY LEAGUE
Last week, students from year 2 & 3 were very excited to participate in the Rugby League Gala Day. They began the day with some skills and drills. After a quick break, they played 15 minute games against the other schools. Jones Hill teams: Bears, Knights and Panthers, played some great football. The teams won every game, except one, when the Jones Hill teams played each other. Fantastic sportsmanship was shown by all players, allowing everyone, who was new to the game, an opportunity to have a go. Thank you to Mr Rentz who trains the teams and was very proud of their performance.
YEAR 5/6 RUGBY LEAGUE
Also, last week, grade 5/6 selected players, went to Albert Park to play for the Tino Faasuamaleaui Shield. The team played against One Mile SS, Chatsworth SS, Gympie South SS and a mixed team, winning all 4 games! The Jones Hill Team progressed to the Semi Final, against St Patrick’s. They had a strong game plan and a lot of determination was shown, to pull off a big win scoring 9 tries to 2. Jones Hill were very excited to be in the final, versing Victory College. This was a very tough match as the players were all feeling fatigued from the last 5 games. Victory got the win 4 tries to our 2. The team were a little disappointed that they didn't get the win, but were reminded by Mr Rentz and Mr Littler, that they should be proud to represent Jones Hill at such a high level of competition and to make it to the final.
Thank you to Mr Rentz and Mr Littler for training and preparing the Team, who had a very successful and great day of rugby league.

Kind Regards,
James Watt - Principal

READING ON RUGS
CHOIR NEWS
Congratulations to our Senior Choir members who have been rehearsing since the beginning of the year and recently performed at our school ANZAC service. Special thanks to our soloists who overcame nerves and windy weather on the day to sing so beautifully.
We have had many students in the lower grades very keen to get started so we are excited to begin our Junior Choir this term. Junior Choir will meet weekly on Thursdays at first break. We have several staff members volunteering their time to help support the large group of students that have signed up to join.
In order to manage the large numbers effectively (and work towards performances), we do need a short- term commitment from our little people. Junior Choir students are able to sign up at the beginning of each term. Once signed up, they are required to come to rehearsals for the duration of that term and perform at parade. At the end of the term they can decide whether to sign up again. Students who don't sign up at the start of the term but then think they would like to join can do so at the start of the following term.
We can't wait to show you the amazing things our choirs will be working on this term!
